Hello,

In our network we have both PC's and Mac's, so I did some testing.

OOo for Windows is able to read and work on the databasefiles stored on a Mac (and on a PC of course) in a network.
Mac can not use (only read) the dbase files stored on another PC or Mac.

Is there a workaround for this? I've been working for days to get my dbase working. Now it only seems to work on stand-alone machines.

Greetz,
Keanoe

Does your mac have write permissions (in OSX) on the volumes you're trying to read/write dbase files in? Do Get Info on the file to see if you need to set new permissions.

Yes, the mac is also used as fileserver. All is set to read/write.
I've read something about Mac OS not supporting lock-settings of databasefiles.

Strangely enough, the Windows PC can access (read and change) the database file on the Mac which is used as file server. The other Macs can't. (we have PPC's and Intel Mac's running 10.3.9 and the latest 10.4)

Maybe I should add that Neo is also putting a .lck file on the server when opening the database file.

(btw, excuse my lousy english, it's a bit rusty)

This is the old "OOo vs Mac OS X file locking" issue, and frankly the accusations have flown back and forth so many times I'm no longer sure which side is up or if the world is round.... Sad

So I just created a dBase database on a mounted volume. The mounted volume resides on a Mac OS X 10.3.9 machine and I can open the dBase tables without a problem.

If you are creating a *.odb file, you will have problems opening such files on mounted volumes as the Java database software that OOo uses (OOo used third-party software to manage *.odb files) does not handle the limited remote file locking support in Mac OS X.
