I recently translated the wiki article on page numbers in to English. It is available here.

Once section of that article describes how to set the page number to something other than 1 by putting a number in an offset field. (I won't go through the whole process here. The steps are lined out in the wiki article).

But while testing the process for Cross References (another article I was translating), I discovered that the offset process does not work. I did some searching in the OOo forums and I have found another approach that does work. It involves changing the settings in the paragraph formatting of all things. Question

Anyway, my question is; has anyone gotten the offset thing to work? Or does it work sometimes and not others? The document I was working with had three page styles: First Page (i.e. Title Page), Right Page, and Left Page. Initially the documents actual second page kept showing up as page 3, regardless of the offset I provided. On the paragraph formatting trick got the page numbers set right.

I'll write up the "new" approach for the wiki soon, but I wanted to know if the offset instructions should be kept (if they actually work for some people) or if I should delete them (if noone gets them to work).

Thanks,

Lorinda

It works. But a little more indication is needed. To get that working correctly, you have to insert a page break between the title page (or the first pages which have no number) and the first numbered page. I just modified the Fr version to add that tip.
Tell me if it's clear enough. Thanks.

Well, I had a page break between the pages in question, and I couldn't get that method to work. I'll have to try again......I just did and now it is working. Hmm..... Well, I guess that means I leave it in place. Thanks for checking on this, Jacqueline.

I see it is also possible to change the number in the page break window; I was unsuccessful the first time because I tried to set a left page to an odd number, when left pages must be even....
