Whenever I try to open an MS .ppt (PowerPoint) file with NeoOffice Impress I get an error:

General error
General input/output error

I get the same message whenever I try to convert an MS file (any type) to NeoOffice as well.

Hmm, uanble to open a .ppt file? I haven't had problems opening .ppt files in NeoOffice.
Are you running any haxies? If so, turn them off.

As for the NeoOffice file and opening it in M$ - did you select the file type as: Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP (.ppt) when saving?

NeoOffice can open .ppt files but M$ can't open .odp files.

Are you running the most current version of NeoOffice?
Currently at NeoOffice 2.1 patch 7.

Can you give us some examples of the full path of the files you are having trouble with? (e.g. Users/Lorinda/Documents/Presentations/PresentationOne.ppt)

I ask because when I have encountered this error it has been related to "illegal" characters in the document or path name. NeoOffice and OpenOffice.org are much pickier about folder and file naming conventions than most Mac applications are. If you have anything other than alphanumeric characters in the file or folder names, you may get this error. (In my case it was a * in the name of a folder in the path for the files I was trying to save).
