If NeoOffice crashes or if you experience behavior you believe to be a bug, try performing the following steps. These steps have fixed problems for many users:

1. Make sure you are using the latest version of NeoOffice. The latest version is available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/download.php?fragment=download.

2. If the you have the latest version of NeoOffice, make sure that you have installed the latest NeoOffice patch. As we fix bugs, we issue patches that include all fixes that have been made since the lastest version was released. The latest NeoOffice patch is available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/patch.php.

3. Consult the troubleshooting guide on the NeoWiki at http://neowiki.neooffice.org/index.php/Troubleshooting_Tips and perform the steps suggested for your type of problem.

If these steps do not solve your problem, then you might have found a new bug.

1. Please file a bug in the NeoOffice bug-tracking system at http://bugzilla.neooffice.org/.

2. Be sure to include steps on how to reproduce the bug and attach a file that illustrates the problem or, if NeoOffice is crashing or hanging, a crash log or sample. Note that a crash log is essential as it is usually the most critical piece of information that we use to implement a fix for the bug, and all of these items really make finding a fix for the bug much quicker.

Note that if Patrick replies in Bugzilla that your bug is an issue with the underlying OpenOffice.org code, you need to be sure to report the bug in the OpenOffice.org IssueZilla if you want it fixed. Sun employs an entire small-company-sized team of engineers for the purpose of developing and fixing bugs in OpenOffice.org.

See http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/pre_submission.html for details on submitting a bug to the OpenOffice.org IssueZilla.

There's a fine essay on good bug reporting by the Simon Tatham (author of the famous puTTY application for Windows) at this URL:

http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html

In any case, before asking for help on these forums or anywhere else, the following documents makes excellent reading:

Happy bughunting!

We also have a fairly nice guide to using the NeoOffice Bugzilla and to filing new bugs Smile

Please note: if you are experiencing a crash or a hang, please open a bug in Bugzilla and attach your crash log or sample after filing the bug.

Crashlogs and samples are hard to manage in forum threads, and they become largely unreadable when pasted into bug comments or forum posts.
