PostPosted: Mon Dec 30, 2013 7:08 pm    Post subject: 2013.2 released in the Mac App Store

Immediately after we released NeoOffice 3.4.1 a few days ago, we updated NeoOffice 2013 to include all of the following NeoOffice 3.4.1 bug fixes and submitted the update as NeoOffice 2013.2 to Apple's Mac App Store:
  • Opening certain .docx and .pptx documents would cause NeoOffice to crash
  • Changing any NeoOffice Writer :: Print settings in the Options dialog would disable printing of word processing documents
  • Zooming using the trackpad would cause the current document to zoom in and out too rapidly
We recommend that all NeoOffice 2013 users upgrade to NeoOffice 2013.2.

NeoOffice 2013.2 can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. If you already purchased NeoOffice 2013 in the Mac App Store, no payment is required to upgrade to NeoOffice 2013.2. To upgrade, launch the App Store application on your Mac, sign in using your iTunes account, and press the Updates toolbar button. If you have NeoOffice 2013 installed, you should see a NeoOffice entry listed. Press the "Update" button in the NeoOffice entry and the App Store application should download and upgrade your NeoOffice 2013 installation to NeoOffice 2013.2.

If you have any support questions, a list of suggested steps for finding an answer for a problem as fast as possible is available on our NeoOffice in the Mac App Store page.

We are pleased to announce the release of our newest product - NeoOffice Invoice - which is now available in the Mac App Store (requires Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or higher).

Just became a consultant or started a small business? Need to bill your customers? NeoOffice Invoice is an easy to use app that helps you quickly create professional looking invoices for billing your customers.

Tim Tistaert implemented NeoOffice Mobile's cloud infrastructure and created this new application to fit all of your small business billing needs. Using its streamlined interface, you can be printing or e-mailing invoices within minutes.

NeoOffice Invoice also tracks paid and unpaid invoices with interactive charts to help track payments and research trends as you grow your business.

Other invoicing apps exist, but with NeoOffice Invoice you can easily do the following:
  • Create invoices for either services or products
  • Copy customers from the OS X Contacts app directly into invoices
  • Export invoices to PDF files for e-mailing to customers
  • Print invoices using any paper size

PostPosted: Fri Mar 07, 2014 3:44 pm    Post subject: NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.1 released in the Mac App Store

Soon after we released NeoOffice Invoice last week, a reviewer reported a bug that caused the due date and the invoice date to be incorrect when printing or exporting to PDF. Immediately after we became aware of this bug, we fixed the bug and submitted NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.1 to Apple's Mac App Store.

We recommend that all NeoOffice Invoice users upgrade to NeoOffice 1.0.1. Upgrading will ensure that the due date and invoice date are correct when printing or exporting to PDF.

NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.1 can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. If you already purchased NeoOffice Invoice in the Mac App Store, no payment is required to upgrade to NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.1. To upgrade, launch the App Store application on your Mac, sign in using your iTunes account, and press the Updates toolbar button. If you have NeoOffice Invoice installed, you should see a NeoOffice Invoice entry listed. Press the "Update" button in the NeoOffice Invoice entry and the App Store application should download and upgrade your NeoOffice Invoice installation to NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.1.

PostPosted: Sun Mar 30, 2014 10:07 am    Post subject: NeoOffice 3.4.1 Patch 1 released

We have released NeoOffice 3.4.1 Patch 1. This patch fixes the slow scrolling bug when swiping on the trackpad that some of our users found soon after we released NeoOffice 3.4.1.

In addition to the slow scrolling bug, NeoOffice 3.4.1 Patch 1 fixes the following bugs:
  • NeoOffice would occassionally hang when dragging an image within a particular Writer document
  • NeoOffice would crash when pressing an arrow key in an empty field in Base's query design window
  • NeoOffice would crash when opening a particular Writer file with comments
  • NeoOffice would crash when opening a particular .svg image file with gradients
  • NeoOffice would create two duplicate versions instead of one version in the Mac OS X Versions browser each time a document was saved
  • NeoOffice would display an uncloseable window if the document window was closed while in the Mac OS X Versions browser
  • NeoOffice would sometimes display a blank popover window when clicking on the downward arrow icon next to the document name in a document window's titlebar while running on Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks
NeoOffice 3.4.1 Patch 1 can be downloaded from the NeoOffice patch download page by users that have paid US$10 (or €8 or £7) through PayPal.

NeoOffice 2013.2 users: the bug fixes in NeoOffice 3.4.1 Patch 1 are not yet available in our Mac App Store version. Due to Apple's review process, it will probably be 2 or 3 weeks before an updated version of NeoOffice is available in the Mac App Store. We will post an announcement as soon as an updated version of NeoOffice is available in the Mac App Store.

If you have any support questions, a list of suggested steps for finding an answer for a problem as fast as possible is available on the NeoOffice Support page.

PostPosted: Wed Apr 23, 2014 10:05 pm    Post subject: Congratulations to Apache OpenOffice!

We at NeoOffice would like to congratulate Apache for reaching 100 million downloads of OpenOffice. Our thanks go out to the OpenOffice engineers at IBM, Oracle, Novell, Red Hat, and Sun Microsystems. The engineers at these companies put in many years of hard work to make OpenOffice what it is today.

While NeoOffice downloads are only a very small fraction of OpenOffice's downloads, OpenOffice's growing popularity is good news for NeoOffice as it allows us to focus solely on what we do best: making the OpenOffice code stable, secure, and well integrated with Mac OS X.

OpenOffice won't run on your Mac? Not comfortable disabling Apple's security protections? Try NeoOffice. NeoOffice can be downloaded on the Mac App Store.

PostPosted: Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:30 pm    Post subject: Base users: do not purchase NeoOffice in the Mac App Store

Recently, we have seen several reviews in the Mac App Store about NeoOffice's lack of support for many of Base's features. While we have tried to get the word out that Apple's Mac App Store does not allow Java and Java is needed for many of Base's features, we clearly have not done enough to warn our users so we are posting this announcement to get spread the word: if you use Base, do not purchase NeoOffice in the Mac App Store.

NeoOffice 3.4.1 supports all of Base's Java-based features. However, to be safe, we are now recommending that Base users use Apache OpenOffice with the Oracle Report Builder extension. The Apache Software Foundation has a well-earned reputation for supporting Java-based software and we at NeoOffice feel that if anyone can keep Base's Java code working on Mac OS X, the engineers at the Apache Software Foundation are the most likely to do it.

Edit on 03 May 2014: added link to Oracle Report Builder extension which is needed for opening and editing Base reports that were created in NeoOffice

PostPosted: Wed May 14, 2014 12:50 am    Post subject: NeoOffice price change

Effective immediately, we have raised the price of our Mac App Store product to US$29.99.

While the old $9.99 price covered this year's operating expenses, we analyzed our Mac App Store downloads and realized that the Mac App Store provides free upgrades for all future versions that we may release so the old price would likely leave us with a shortfall next year or the year after.

Will that reduce our revenue? Probably. But since we hear all of the wonderful things that OpenOffice and LibreOffice are doing, we felt it was time to price NeoOffice at the true cost of its funding and let our users decide whether they think the cost of NeoOffice is worth funding.

What if there isn't enough revenue? Patrick and Ed are talented engineers and they have a long list of other projects that they have deferred to work on NeoOffice. If users provide the revenue, they will work on NeoOffice. But the reality is that after 11 years, NeoOffice users still barely cover the costs of running the NeoOffice project. So, if NeoOffice revenue drops, Patrick and Ed will spend their time on other projects.

But what if I depend on NeoOffice? You have two choices: vote by purchasing NeoOffice in the Mac App Store or transition to OpenOffice or LibreOffice. OpenOffice and LibreOffice are funded by large corporations. If they can afford to fund it, why not see if their free software works for you?

But what if I am using an old version of NeoOffice? If you have already paid us $10 via PayPal, you can still download NeoOffice 3.4.1 and its patches. Please note that if you have not paid us $10 or more in the past, your only upgrade path is NeoOffice in the Mac App Store.

PostPosted: Fri May 16, 2014 7:46 pm    Post subject: NeoOffice 2013.4 released in the Mac App Store

We have released NeoOffice 2013.4 in Apple's Mac App Store. The version fixes the following bugs that our users found after we released NeoOffice 2013.3:
  • Playing videos in a document would sometimes cause NeoOffice to crash
  • Exporting as PDF would cause NeoOffice to display the wrong name in the document's titlebar
If you already purchased NeoOffice in the Mac App Store, you can upgrade to NeoOffice 2013.4 for free. When you purchase NeoOffice in the Mac App Store, you pay only once and no payment is needed to upgrade to any future versions of NeoOffice that we release in the Mac App Store.

NeoOffice 3.x and OpenOffice users: we recommend that you read the list of changes before you upgrade to this version of NeoOffice. If you use Base, we recommend that you use OpenOffice with the Oracle Report Builder extension. The Base features in NeoOffice 2013.4 are much more limited than OpenOffice.

NeoOffice 2013.4 can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. If you already purchased a previous version of NeoOffice in the Mac App Store, launch the App Store application on your Mac, sign in with your iTunes account, and you should see an "Install" or an "Update" button. Pressing either button will install NeoOffice 2013.4.

PostPosted: Mon May 19, 2014 7:26 pm    Post subject: NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.2 released in the Mac App Store

We have released NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.2 in the Mac App Store. NeoOffice Invoice is an easy to use app that helps you quickly create professional looking invoices for billing your customers.

This version adds emailing invoices to customers. Using the File :: Email Invoice menu, NeoOffice Invoice will attach your invoice to a new email message in the Mail application.

Important note for non-English users: while this version supports the currency and number formatting used in most countries, all invoices use U.S. English text.

NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.2 can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. If you already purchased a previous version of NeoOffice Invoice in the Mac App Store, click on the "View in Mac App Store" button. This will show the NeoOffice Invoice product page in the App Store application on your Mac. Sign in with your iTunes account and you should see an "Install" or an "Update" button. Pressing either button will install NeoOffice Invoice 1.0.2.

PostPosted: Sat May 24, 2014 5:02 pm    Post subject: NeoOffice 2013.4 shown as 2014.4 in Mac App Store

Some of our users found a typo NeoOffice's Mac App Store description: the current version - NeoOffice 2013.4 - is listed as "2014.4". As a result of this typo, the App Store application will say that there is an update for NeoOffice even after you install NeoOffice 2013.4.

Unfortunately, Apple does not provide any way for us to correct this typo. But we have submitted the next version - NeoOffice 2013.5 - to Apple's Mac App Store reviewers. When Apple approves the next version, the update problem caused by this typo should be fixed.

We will post an announcement when Apple approves the next version of NeoOffice. Our experience is that Apple requires 1 to 3 weeks to review a new version of NeoOffice so if you don't want to wait for the bug fixes that will be included in NeoOffice 2013.5, you can get the bug fixes now by installing the latest NeoOffice 2013.4 test patch listed in our NeoOffice Testing forum.
