One of the nice things I like about OpenOffice for Windows is the font preview. That is, in the dialog box in Writer where one can change fonts, the actual font is used allowing me to see what it looks like. In NeoOffice, it just lists the font name, but no preview. Am I doing something wrong, or is that just one of the features that isn't available in NeoOffice?

It is available, but unlike on Windows, displaying all fonts on Mac OS X consumes a huge amount of memory and may result in sluggish performance for your computer so we set this set the previewing option off by default. I assume that this is one of the primary reasons that the font selection dialog on TextEdit and other Apple applications does not preview each font.

Anyway, to turn on previewing, select the Tools :: Options menu and, in the dialog that appears, click on NeoOffice :: View and check "Show preview of fonts".

Interesting! Didn't see that. Thanks for the timely response. I will try it and see what happens, just for the fun of it.

OK, very cool. It works! I have not noticed any sluggishness. I have a MacBook with Core 2 Duo and 1 gig of RAM. I don't have a whole bunch of apps running. If I notice sluggishness, I know how to turn off this feature. Very nice. Thank you so much for your hard work.

Just remember you'll need to reboot your Mac to clear all the loaded fonts from memory if you do notice any sluggishness anywhere.
