Having grown frustrated with the Leopard related instability of X11, I have defected to NeoOffice and am glad I did. I am glad to see the new patch fixed some serious bugs but the first thing I noticed is not even mentioned--now, Neo just looks better.
In several views in the Preferences dialog box it drove me crazy that the left edge of check boxes and radio buttons was shaved off. This has since been fixed and the interface looks really good now.
I would like to see windows repaint more fluidly on resizing. Right now if you grab the corner and resize, the window goes white then repaints. Not as attractive as with typical Mac behaviour.
I am so sorry to learn of the slowness of Calc with big files. Fortunately, I only work with tiny spreadsheets.

This is a known issue. Unfortunately, this is a bug in Java for Mac OS X, so not something we can fix.
