Spreadsheet function not operating / displaying properly.

I used the function wizard to construct the formula, as below:

=find(" "; n8; 1) ===> in the function wizard, the result is correctly shown. ( was looking for the first blank space within a string in cell N8, beginning at the first character)

However, when I click "OK", and the function is pasted into a cell of the spreadsheet, it does not work. What is shown is:

=find(" ";n8;1)

I would have expected the result to be shown, and not the formula.

Any ideas / input would be appreciated.
( I am trying to move away from Excel for Mac and into NeoOffice, but it has been a struggle)

Try this:

Open a Calc document.

Go to the NeoOffice > Preferences menu.

Click on the little triangle next to NeoOffice Calc to expand the section.

Select View and uncheck Formulas in the Display pane.

Click OK.

Hope that helps.

Hello Jacqueline,

Thanks for the response. I have ensured that the box is unchecked as you suggested. It was not checked. So far, nothing has changed.

Here is what I have discovered, so far:
1. If I use the function wizard, most functions appear to work properly.
2. If I manually create / enter the function in the formula bar, I have a 50-50 chance of having the function work.
3. I have also noticed that if I manually edit a properly working function, the formula / function may or may not work; it appears to be random.

I am willing to send attached sample spreadsheet, but I am not aware of how to do this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Scott

Did you install the last version of NeoOffice, which you can download from this page?

Then you should install the last Patch (i.e. Patch2)
here.

If they are installed and if the problem persists, you can try to move your Preferences folder, as described in this article in NeoWiKi.

The only way to attach a document, is to file a bug. See the instructions in Bugzilla Guide.

Hope you'll solve your problem quickly Smile
