I created an Impress document on a machine (iMac Intel), then tried to open this file on another machine (Pb G4): all the video and sound files have disappeared and are replaced with a question mark on a grey background. Is that normal behavior or a bug?

AFAICT, it's normal behavior. This is because the sound or movie files aren't embedded in the .odp presentation (you can see that by checking the size of the file). I'm not sure how you're supposed to embed files in a presentation though... |

Thanks Samwise.
I "googled" a bit and found this workaround.
I've not yet tested this method.

The workaround provided above works fine.
Tip to add to NeoWiki

I added a link to the "home" page for the entire guide to the NeoImpress page. That doesn't directly address this particular tip, though.

FYI. A few days ago I found a really nasty QuickTime bug that occurs on my G4 machine. It seems that with machines that have RAGE 128 or RAGE 128 Pro graphics cards (generally G3 and G4 machines), the movie will play just above or below the movie's object bounds.
I traced this to a bug in Apple's QTMovieView and it is triggered by Java's use of windows with flipped coordinate spaces. Unfortunately, to fix this issue, I had to hack into Java's native window positioning code. Although the fix is very simple, this fix is in the core of Java so I want to make sure that people don't see weird mouse behavior or window placement behavior.
So, if you are testing our QuickTime movie and sound support, please install the following test patch:
PowerPC:
http://jane.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-2.2.2-Patch-10-Test-1-PowerPC.dmg
Intel:
http://jane.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-2.2.2-Patch-10-Test-1-Intel.dmg
Edit: replaced original Patch 8 links with Patch 10 links.

No way of getting Apple to put this in an update?
I mean, if you hand them the solution on a platter, they might be able to grab it for an update a few months from now.. Not that it would solve your immediate problem, but still.
Best wishes,

Note that I didn't fix the bug in QuickTime but merely implemented an invasive change in Java to avoid triggering the QuickTime bug. I would hope that Apple would instead fix QuickTime itself so that other applications that use flipped window coordinates don't experience the same bug.
Of course, I'll file a bug with my simple Cocoa test application that demonstrates the bug so that they can hopefully fix it. But generally it only occurs on old hardware (G4 and G3) so don't hold your breath as I am still waiting for their fix for the Java and Spaces bug on Leopard.

I just noticed a little problem:
The scaling drop-down menu in the Media Playback toolbar remains greyed out when a movie is playing.

Which drop-down is that? I can't find it in the Media Playback toolbar. |

It's on the very right-hand side, just after the volume slider.

I can see a drop-down, which says View when you hover the mouse pointer over it, but it's always grayed-out. Did you get it to work under certain circumstances? |

That's the problem
It's greyed out too when you select the Media Player from the Tools menu.
It's the first time I check it. I'm not able to say if it has ever worked.

But then, how do you know it's supposed to control scaling, and how do you know it's not supposed to be grayed-out? I couldn't find anything in the help files… |

Since you posted an OpenOffice.org 2.3 Windows snapshot earlier in this topic, I assume you have access to a Windows machine. If so, what does that button do on Windows?
