i was that guy.

i saw the annoucement this morning.

i LEFT WORK. drove FOR AN HOUR and got one when the apple store opened.

and holy fuck.

i am going, for those who don't know, from an 800 mhz G3 ibook (12 inch) to a 2.5 core duo 15.4 inch powerbook.

it is mad wicked. i feel like i am finally in the twentieth century.

ironically this is the first intel i have ever purchased. i was a cyrix then amd kid when i was a PC guy...

did i meantion this thing is fast?

err, sorry, in mac terms, it is snappier than my older computer.

You're complaining that the PRO features aren't on the CONSUMER laptop?

If you want the features of a MacBook PRO, then buy the MacBook PRO.

My point exactly: the 15" MBP is too big for my tastes..

And the MBA is both too expensive and does not have the DVD drive I would like included.

Any battery life differences? I was reading somewhere that, while 45nm should help, I thought they changed the testing method they used to determine battery life.

I already know what it is to go from a 1.25 GHz G4 to a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo (I was too impatient to wait for the updates), and it's already pretty sweet. Now a G3 to Penryn transition must be something Very Happy

Going from a G3, I think you get a free pass at being "that guy" Wink

Welcome to the brave new world.
