A few weeks ago, we posted some snapshots of NeoOffice Mobile. Since then we have finished implementing the core features. Although NeoOffice Mobile is definitely not totally complete, we would like to let any interested NeoOffice users see the product and help us find any major problems or critical bugs. So, we have released NeoOffice Mobile Preview.
The primary focus of our work thus far has been to develop a way to securely share NeoOffice files with other users and other computers. The concept is that you can "publish" a document from within NeoOffice. It then gets uploaded to the NeoOffice Mobile server using a secure, encrypted connection. Once documents are published, they can be viewed using secure connections from regular web browsers or web-enabled mobile devices. Also, for NeoOffice users with NeoOffice Mobile installed, document in NeoMobile will be opened directly in NeoOffice.
All published documents in NeoOffice Mobile are private unless you explicitly share them with other users. Also, any documents that you share can be set to be viewable only by the users that you specify. For example, you can limit viewing of some documents to only your colleagues or friends.
The Preview release offers the full functionality we have in mind for NeoOffice Mobile. If you have already have NeoOffice 3.0 installed, you can start publishing documents in NeoOffice Mobile by installing the following test patch:
The test patch will add in a new NeoOffice Mobile menu in NeoOffice 3.0. If you select the NeoOffice Mobile :: Open NeoOffice Mobile menu, a floating window will appear that will securely connect to one of our NeoOffice Mobile Preview servers. Anyone can create a free NeoOffice Mobile account in this floating window and, once your account is created, start publishing documents.
Because this is a Preview release, please be aware that files will likely be deleted from the NeoOffice Mobile servers every week or so. Also, if a bug fix or feature change requires it, the files may be deleted sooner. So please do not use NeoOffice Mobile as a backup server and save any files that you have published in NeoOffice Mobile on your machine.
We hope that you find our NeoOffice Mobile idea to be useful. Feel free to post any questions, bugs, feature suggestions, and help requests in this forum. Both Tim and I will try to fix any major bugs that you may find as quick as we can.

FYI. I have fixed a couple of NeoOffice printing and PDF export bugs. While these bug fixes are unrelated to NeoOffice Mobile, I have uploaded the following test patch so that NeoOffice Mobile testers can also get the latest NeoOffice bug fixes:

FYI. I have fixed a few more PDF export bugs and I have merged the OpenOffice.org 3.1 Calc speed improvements. While these bug fixes and speed improvements do not affect NeoOffice Mobile, I have uploaded the following test patch so that NeoOffice Mobile testers can also test the latest NeoOffice bug fixes and speed improvements:

FYI. I have fixed an extension update check bug and I have added support for pasting transparent images into NeoOffice. While these bug fixes do not affect NeoOffice Mobile, I have uploaded the following test patch so that NeoOffice Mobile testers can also test the latest NeoOffice bug fixes and speed improvements:

FYI. Ed and I have add two small features in the NeoOffice Mobile floating window:
- NeoOffice Mobile opens automatically when you launch NeoOffice if you had NeoOffice Mobile when you last quit NeoOffice
- We can now localize messages in the NeoOffice Mobile status bar
You can try out these new features by installing the following test patch. Note that the only localized message is that for French users, the Cancel button will be the Annuler button. If anyone can help us translate the messages, I have created this forum topic and we will include any translations posted in that forum topic in the next test patch:

After posting the test patch yesterday, I realized that I did not implement opening the NeoOffice Mobile floating window with the same width and height as the last time it was open so I implemented that missing feature and I have uploaded the following test patch:

I have added French, Dutch, and Portuguese for all NeoOffice Mobile menus and status bar messages. If NeoOffice is set to display any of these three languages, you can get these translations in NeoOffice Mobile by installing the following test patch:

Now that NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 3 and NeoOffice 2.2.5 Patch 11 have been released, I have uploaded new test patches. If you are a NeoOffice Mobile tester, you do not have to install the official patches. You only need to install the following test patch and you will get the latest patch plus the latest NeoOffice Mobile code:

Within the next 24 hours, we will release NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 4 and NeoOffice 2.2.5 Patch 12. So that NeoOffice Mobile testers can get the bug fixes and menu speed improvements in these new patches, I have uploaded the following new test patches.
Installing these test patches will upgrade NeoOffice to the latest new patch. Additionally, these test patches will fix a bug in Apple's web engine that we use that makes the NeoOffice Mobile floating window mangle the name of non-English filenames when opening the non-English filenames from your NeoOffice Mobile account:

Next Monday, 10 August 2009, we are planning to release NeoOffice 3.0 Patch 6 and NeoOffice 2.2.5 Patch 14. So that NeoOffice Mobile testers can get the bug fixes in these new patches, I have uploaded the following new test patches.
Installing these test patches will upgrade NeoOffice to the latest new patch plus the latest NeoOffice Mobile code. Please note that until we release the official patches next week, NeoOffice's patch update check will say that there is a newer patch available. This is normal and there is no need to install the latest official patch as the following test patches will match the official patch starting next Monday:

On 15 September 2009 NeoOffice Mobile will "go live" and the Preview phase will end. Since the Preview phase is ending, on 14 September 2009 we will remove all data in the test system. The test system will not go away, but we will limit its use to test bug fixes and new features.
If you have any documents in the test system that you want to save, be sure to log into the test system and download a copy before 14 September 2009.
Starting on 15 September 2009, NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access members will be able to publish documents in the new production NeoOffice Mobile system by installing NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access and selecting the NeoOffice Mobile menu.
