OK. Since that checkbox is not what turns those two settings on but I think that those settings cause all file memory mapping requests to cumulatively use of shared memory even though the requests fail, I have a new test patch for you to try.

Can you install this test patch and see if you get any crashing after a few days of use? This test patch will check if either one of these settings are set. If either is set, my code will not do any memory mapping requests:

Intel:

PowerPC:
http://joe.neooffice.org/test/NeoOffice-3.0.2_Early_Access-Patch-0-Test-1-PowerPC.dmg

installed. I haven't crashed at all since I installed the first patch - on the other hand, I haven't used the program much - just loaded and quit a few times, so it's too early to tell.

Hopefully, you have had no crashes since your post. If you have had any crashes over the weekend, please let us know. If you have not had any crashes, I will include the fix in the next NeoOffice 3.0.2 Early Access and NeoOffice 2.2.6 patches.

Update by pluby: I can only include the fix in NeoOffice 3.0.2 Early Access. I cannot include the fix in NeoOffice 2.2.6 because I found out that I cannot backport this fix to NeoOffice 2.2.6 as NeoOffice 2.2.6's underlying OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 code requires the mmap() function to always work.

FYI: I have created bug 3581 to track this issue.

FYI. I have included the fix in NeoOffice 3.0.2 which we released today. Members and subscribers of the current NeoOffice Early Access Program can download NeoOffice 3.0.2 from the NeoOffice Early Access Program download page.
