I don't see why I should donate $25 to see if there is a version of NeoOffice which will run on my machine.

So I am posting on this forum.

I downloaded NeoOffice 3.1.1 on the say-so of a third party, only to be told that it needs Mac OS 10.4 or later to install.

I know that NeoOffice 2.1 will run on Mac OS 10.3.9, but I cannot find anywhere that this version can be downloaded. In any case, is there a version between 2.1 and 3.0.2 that will run on Mac OS 10.3.9, is stable and can be downloaded?

It appears that you have posted in the NeoWiki and Website Development forum which is not the right place to post about NeoOffice issues. I have moved your post to the NeoOffice Support forum where it actually belongs.

As you noticed, that forum has a minimum donation limit but once you donate the minimum amount, please post a reply and we will start working on your issue.

For what I do, I mostly find the performance of NeoOffice 3.1.1 quite acceptable on my G4 iBook (1.33 GHz 1.5GB OS X 10.4.11). In all sorts of ways, though I'm increasingly aware that I'm running a nearly five year old machine (which is a minor revision of a nearly seven year old spec) using an OS which was launched five years ago and superseded nearly three years ago. It still does what I need, but other people's kit (including my kids) is faster and slicker.

I fully agree (I have the same machine but with 1.25 GB), though I would appreciate a faster startup time.

Chip speed really does matter. The G4 really is an obsolete chip and even when it was new, it was definitely not the fastest chip out there. The G5 is noticeably better but CPU-intensive operations (like compiling NeoOffice code) are still significantly slower than the single core Intel chip in my Intel MacMini from 2007.
