It might also be worth adding the fact that Dan and/or Ed(?) talked about developing NO at one of the WWDC (IIRC) - didn't they win some award for it as well, or am I completely misremembering?
Wow, didn't know that. We really need a NO person to flush out that section. Besides Ed, are any of the others "still around"?
I'm still not sure of the award thing - you'd have to ask Ed about that. I have a very vague memory of it, but it could well be totally wrong. _________________ PBG4, 1.5GHz, SuperDrive, 1GB RAM, 128MB VRAM, 5400rpm 80GB HD, MacOS X 10.4.5
Also, not turning every OpenOffice.org or NeoOffice/J mention into a link might improve text clarity
I tried to catch some of that, but you actually have to do work to make them *not* links And I felt that in some cases the links actually made the page more readible by breaking up the long black sections We should re-evaluate that once we break the page up into parts, though.
When I was in college, my teachers told me to use white space instead .
Well, the problem is the pghs are not more than about three sentences, which means they're not even real pghs I think the real problem is, as jake mentioned, long pages (and particularly that one, which I've not broken up yet).
I did go through and disable a lot of them (one link of each program per pgh seems good?) and clean up the OO vs OOo links. In fact, I edited the OO page to be a pointer to the OOo page with a little explanation of the trademark issue (in case any new links to the OO page get created by accident).
FWIW, this is the code to make sure "OpenOffice.org" links to the OOo page:
Code:
((OpenOffice.org|OpenOffice.org))
That's it for me for today, though. Gotta go resurrect a dead PC and eat some turkey and nap...
Cheers! (and Happy Thanksgiving to those for whom it's relevant!)

Good work!

Oh, darn.. And here I am, used to a completely different set of Wiki software. Now I understand why the other code didn't make sense to me. It uses different characters for structure.

I haven't had dinners like that since I lived in Berkeley.. Enjoy and don't forget to give thanks for our great software .

Me, too. But there's a link in the WikiInfo to the documentation for this wiki (thanks Jake!) and specifically to the formatting stuff.
Thanks! From those links, I also found interviews with Kevin and Patrick and a number of other docs with useful stuff about the early years of the OOo Mac port (not as much Neo stuff, but I browsed the fora and found some more dates) that will help at least with the "timeline"....
I took a stab at answering the 'why not use cocoa' question in the wiki. Feel free to edit mercilessly.
I like it! I like it even more that the ducks and their choice of beverages are there, too
For the sake of breaking the idea/confusion that only Cocoa can lead to Aqua, I separated the two words in the title. Not sure if it sounds OK now, but since it's a FAQ, we should do our best to distinguish between the result and the technologies that get the result
Is it worth quoting your earlier post (in the what's in a j thread?) where you define Aqua and mention the three ways of achieving it?

Just to make sure everyone agrees on what Aqua is, let me quote the Apple Human Interface Guidelines:
"Aqua is the overall appearance and behavior of Mac OS X. Aqua defines the standard appearance of specific user interface components such as windows, menus, and controls, and is also characterized by the anti-aliased appearance of text and graphics, shadowing, transparency, and careful use of color. Aqua delivers standardized consistent behaviors and promotes clear communication of status through animated notifications, visual effects, and more. Designing for Aqua compliance will ensure you provide the best possible user experience for your customers. Aqua is available to Cocoa, Carbon, and Java software."
So yes, an Aqua NeoOffice can be achieved using Java.
