I desperately need a solution in NO Writer to insert watermarks (such as "Draft" or "Copy") into documents that we produce in our office.

Previously we would add a .pdf as a background image to each Section of the document using Format>Page>Background>As:Graphic. The .pdf was a previously saved document with a single word on the page, which could be reused as needed.

This method worked, but it was, sadly, necessary to insert the background image in this manner in EACH AND EVERY section of a multiple section document. This could prove rather tiresome if the document, as was often the case, had many sections.

Since updating to Lion and Mountain Lion on some office workstations, this method longer works.

Any suggestions?

Neither NeoOffice 3.3 or NeoOffice 3.2.1 (the only versions released in 2011 and 2012) allow you to insert a .pdf file so I assume that the .pdf got converted to a different image format before at some point before it got inserted (copy and pasting images from the Mac OS X Preview application into NeoOffice will cause a conversion like that).

Since that NeoOffice dialog tab does not support .pdf files, can you try the following steps?:

1. Open the .pdf file in Mac OS X's Preview application.

2. In the Preview application, select the File :: Save As menu. In the dialog that appears, change the Format listbox option to "PNG" and press the OK button.

3. In the NeoOffice dialog tab, use the .png file created in step 2 as the background.

If the above works, then see below for how to use the .png file to set the background image for all sections.

To do what you want to do, try setting the background image of a page style and then use that page style in all sections. To do this, use the following steps:

1. Put the cursor in the first page of a document and select the Format :: Styles and Formatting menu. In the Styles and Formatting floating window that is displayed, click on the "Page Styles" icon. It is the 4th icon from the left at the top of the window.

2. The current page's "page style" will be highlighted. Right-click or Control-click on the highlighted page style. In the popup menu that appears, select the Modify option. In the dialog that appears, select the Background tab and insert the .png file that you want to use.

3. Go each of the next sections and check if the background image appears. If it does not, then that section is using a different page style and you can either of the following for that section:

- Click on the Styles and Formatting floating window's "Page Styles" and double-click on the page style name that you modified in step 2

- If you want to keep using different page styles for some sections, redo step 2 for the highlighted page style.

Patrick

You are correct, the image we used as a watermark was in fact a .jpg NOT a .pdf. I had previously tested this method using .tiff format images, and several others and it did not work. It would only work on the workstations that had Mac OS 10.6 or earlier installed. I had not tested .png formatted images.

In either case, your solution using .png images does work. It is odd, however, that NOW the .jpg format also works. I have not retested adding an image to a page since the most recent update of NeoOffice. But in prior tests, this technique never worked.

It works now! For WHATEVER reason!

Thanks for your help!
