Posted by pluby on Monday, February 26 @ 13:25:11 CST
NeoOffice FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SANTA CLARA, CA—26 February 2007— NeoOffice.org is pleased to announce the release of NeoOffice 2.1 Early Access through the NeoOffice Early Access Program. NeoOffice 2.1 Early Access contains a number of unique features including:
  • Opening, editing, and saving of Microsoft Office 2007 Word documents
  • Execution of Visual Basic for Applications macros in Excel documents
  • Support for linear programming extensions for spreadsheets
  • The latest features from OpenOffice.org 2.1
  • And more!
The NeoOffice 2.1 Early Access release will allow Mac users to utilize Microsoft Office 2007 Word documents prior to the announced availability of translators from Microsoft. Also, with Microsoft's announced intention to remove VBA support in Microsoft Office Mac 2007, NeoOffice 2.1 Early Access is one of the only available ongoing solutions for Mac users who use VBA macros in their Excel documents. Support for interoperability with Microsoft Office 2007 Word documents and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) is drawn from the ooo-build project, a branch of OpenOffice.org that includes several features which Sun has not yet integrated up-stream. ooo-build is a collaboration between many individuals and vendors spearheaded by Novell. Leveraging the ongoing contributions from ooo-build, NeoOffice.org is pleased to deliver the most compatible office productivity application suite for Mac OS X for today and beyond. Starting on 27 March 2007, free downloads of NeoOffice 2.1 will be available. Until then, downloads of NeoOffice 2.1 Early Access will only be available to NeoOffice Early Access members and subscribers. So if you want to try it out now, you can purchase a NeoOffice Early Access membership or subscription by visiting the NeoOffice Early Access page.

NeoOffice 2.1 Early Access is a test release and may have some undiscovered bugs that may cause NeoOffice to crash. If you feel that you need software that has been heavily tested, we recommend that you use a commercially-supported product like Microsoft Office. Since NeoOffice is developed by volunteers and tested by users, we expect that users will find crashing or other serious bugs. We strongly recommend that you save your work frequently so that if you encounter a crashing bug, you will not lose much data. If you have any support questions, please visit the NeoWiki or ask your question in the NeoOffice Support forum. Also, please post any bugs that you find in Bugzilla so that we can continue to improve NeoOffice.
