Just as a FYI, I wasn't anywhere near today's bombings... in fact, first I heard of it was when my dad phoned to check on me Wink

Feeling decidedly weird right now.

I didn't know about it until my brother in London phoned me this morning to tell me he was okay.

Apart from all the injured and bereaved, it crosses my mind that this will once again make it a harder thing to be a muslim in England - so a lot of compassion is needed in many directions over here.

Yup, we can expect some brainless idiots to attack e.g. some Sikhs because they look, you know, like funny foreigners... no doubt a few paediatricians will get a good kicking too... sigh. Sad Rolling Eyes

My own personal countdown is for how long it takes for someone from the government to mention the need for ID cards as though they are some magical panacea for preventing such atrocities. Mad

Actually, I just saw the shadow home secretary on the BBC world service and he said it wouldn't have made any difference. So far I think the response has been fairly measured and what I would have liked to see from the Bush and Aznar teams. It doesn't seem like a public frenzy right now. Maybe that legendary stiff upper lip will hold Smile.

In any case, our best hopes and wishes are with you.

Cheers. I'm fine and all my friends are also fine... and my stoic stiff upper lip is firmly in place. Wink I likewise hope anyone else's friends and relations are all OK.

I guess that most of us here have been expecting something like this for a long time now, if not from "islamic" fundamentalists, then from the Real IRA or some such, so there isn't as much of a sense of shock as there could have been now that it has actually happened.

I sincerely hope that this doesn't become the excuse for even more erosion of our civil liberties, but I'm far too cynical in my outlook to have any faith in that hope... give it a day or two and some distasteful stuff is likely to start flowing from the mouths of our MPs Very Happy

The same from this side of the pond. JKT is the only Londoner I "know," so naturally some gentleman I've never met was the first person I thought of when I heard the news.
