So, maybe we should have one "latest press" thread here rather than a collection of one-thread-per-article-with-a-couple-of-posts threads?

Every once in a while (maybe quarterly?) I Google "neooffice" or "neooffice/j" and go through the first 10-20 pages of results; it's usually a nice read to see the various blog mentions (and pdfs people have created with Neo/J, which gives a real feeling of usefulness) to see the mentions, all the random places Neo/J turns up.

Anyway, among those I happened upon this Mac360.com review....

Smokey

(If people think one thread in which to post the latest press mentions would be useful, I can sticky this one; otherwise I'll rename it with the article and we can continue the 1 article, 1 thread system.)

What could be nice is a spot on the homepage that lists all the latest news and we just post here when we find new ones. Then whoever handles the homepage can just add it to the list. One thread with a bunch of posts can be overwhelming.

I hate that the writer emphasizes the free part so much and relates OpenSource to free. Quality is such a better comparison to price and I think we need to get the press to start focusing on the quality of the OpenOffice / NeoOffice product rather than the price.

Adam:

I could not agree more with the value versus price arguement. I've used StarOffice (the predecessor to OpenOffice) for a LONG time (can you say OS/2 Warp and Star Office?)

I think that one of the points to emphasize is that Open Office versions exist for:
Linux
Windows
MacOSX
Mac9 (yes it does, but it is not the latest version)
UNIXes
OS/2
SGI IRIX
FreeBSD (cannot forget Maho's work on this)
and several other operating systems that I cannot remember right now.

What does Office exist for? Windows and MacOSX.
