|
Hi all,
Yes, I know, there ware some threads about this issue already, but the solution isn't here yet.
I've tried recently to type some texts in esperanto using both OO/X11 1.1.2 GM and 1.9.130 and Neo/J and it seems both X11 version don't allow to input esperanto lettes like "^s", "^j" or "~u". Better known letters with diacritics (French, Italian or Portugese) input well.
I've tried U.S. Extended Unicode keyboard driver, because all a.m. letters are outside Mac Roman charset are thus are not supported by any Roman keyboard driver (maybe I'm wrong here, didn't try all of them).
The files made in other applications open and display correctly, I can use Insert - > Special Character too and even the spell checker suggests "^sipo" (sxipo) instead of sipo. But still no input from the keyboard.
On the other side, Neo/J uses U.S. Extended keyboard driver and allows to write in esperanto. So I presume it' s more a X11 related issue, as the codebase is the same. One more reason to prefer Neo/J, but I use both and would like to continue.
Any ideas? |

Before we released 1.1.2 GM, I did some tests and it seems that X11 doesn't support some of the Mac keyboard layouts. There were some layouts that I could get to work in Gimp.app but not in 1.1.2, so some of it is OOo-specific, though.
I don't have any answers, unfortunately.

Hi, sardisson,
Actually it seems that the problem is more charset related. Even if you use a Central European or Unicode keyboard driver, you can input only the symbols from Roman charset. Others are simply ignored.
US, French, Spanish, Brazilian ABNT keyboard drivers are OK (all Roman). Russian, Ukrainian and some other Cyrillic keyboard drivers are OK.
Central European and Unicode keyboard drivers work partially.
Still no answer, that's sad.
Bye. |

For the six special Esperanto letters can you not set the autocorrect feature in N/J? Let's say to autoreplace xG (or similar combination) with ^G (you know what G letter I mean - it cannot be displayed here) etc. |

Here are the results of my tests with Gimp.app when I was trying to determine whether the problem was with OOo or more general one of X11/X11 apps. I'm sure at the time I knew which ones I could input with OOo, but I didn't write it down. Maybe none of them worked.

You mean Ĝ?
You can input any Unicode codepoint into most textfields using most Mac browsers and it'll display correctly (entering either via keyboard layout, copy/paste, drag/drop, or the Character Palette). phpBB2 (used here for trinity forums) stores them as numeric entities. Then assuming the visiting browser has a font with that codepoint, it's displayable.

Hi, actually this issue doesn't affect Neo/J, only the X11 versions. |

You may want to look for Maho's builds or some of the newer X11 binaries. 1.1.2 GM that I built has 10.2 support and some of the locale stuff had to be done in a way that was incompatible with some languages like Japanese. I wonder if you may be experencing a similar problem with your accent keys.

Hi, Ed,
Where I can get them? I've tried 1.9.130 from stardiv's ftp and the problem is still here under 10.3.9 (see my first post). I'll try under 10.4.2 those days. |

See this post for known sources of dev builds, including Maho's site

Same problem with Maho's builds for Panther and Tiger. U.S. Extended keyboard driver works partially. |
