Incidentally, any idea what happened to asxless? I know he/she gave up on the OpenOffice.org project but he/she also stopped posting at MacNN as well at around the same time...
It was a combination of personal issues but, more unfortunately, politics. Being dragged around by the corporate forces that be can get really draining for folks who get really way too involved in them. I'm certain that he is doing great things in whatever path he's chosen to direct his volunteer efforts and take heart in the knowledge it's probably much more immediate and physical then just a voice "in the ether".
(could be she, of course, but I assume everyone I talk to is a guy since I don't know how to talk to women...</familyguyflashback>)

FWIW, have you noticed that OOoDocs had been massively spammed by porno spammers in August (I think)... I thought the place had been resurrected after months of inactivity, but I guess not!
Looks like another site killed by spammers <sigh>. Luckily, Trinity has a good crew of folks watching over and they remove spam before it becomes unsightly.
Very true. It's difficult enough to try and keep up with automated measures against spammers and DDoSers, but sheer matter of fact is that these days any type of public forum is going to get both automated and real spam. It takes a lot of man hours to keep things spam free on both the server and moderator side of things, and it's one of those things that doesn't get appreciated until it's gone.
Not to mention...keeping the site organized and posts on topic too!
i run several forums and the spam is always a pain. i am getting spam user account requests on the one that you have to go through me to get an account, who knows what they'd do if i let them inside.
if ooodocs is really down, we may want to consider raiding it for content before it becomes totally useless (by we i mean me for the wiki)

Well, whatever info is still relevant is fair game, as far as I am concerned. If you find good stuff we could just start this forum with a sticky that goes
"Please look at the X11 section of the Wiki first.
Did you look in the wiki yet? If not, do so now!
You're absolutely sure this isn't in the Wiki?
If you really can't find what you were looking for on the Wiki, ask away.."
or something like that.... _________________ "What do you think of Western Civilization?"
