More than once, I've tried to use html code for a "hidden" link in these forums, with the syntax <a href="http://url.com" target="_blank">PUT TEXT HERE</a>, but whenever I preview it, it doesn't show up as a link. So I end up using the BBCode buttons at the top of the "new topic" window instead, which works fine.
That same window says that HTML is on. Any idea what's up? It's not a big deal, since there is a work around. I have the HTML syntax stashed in a custom pasteboard (thank you, Butler!), and I keep forgetting that I can't use it here. (Maybe I should stash the BBCode in a custom pasteboard, too.)
I all this, keep in mind that the syntax above sums up my entire knowledge of html!
I guess the 'Disable HTML in this post' option when posting gives the impression that HTML is enabled by default - and the site certainly tries to interpret anything in <> unless HTML is disabled. Perhaps it's just not a complete implementation of HTML that's there.

Yes, by default it interprets some HTML tags, but not all. The link tags, in particular, are not allowed. But some simple ones like <b>bold</b>, linebreak (<br>), <i>italics</i>, and <u>underline</u>, <pre>preformatted text</pre> are recognized

Oh, so the bold/italics/underline tags are supported ? Since the link tag didn't work here, I actually never bothered to check the other tags. This is good news, as < and > are easier to type than [ and ] (at least on my KB)

Thanks for the clarification everyone! Thanks, too, to Samwise for the BB Code FAQ link, and to Patrick for the code syntax that I have now stashed in my custom pasteboards!
