|
OK, so our 2.1 release is coming up and as a courtesy we decided to send links to current EAP members to give them access to download it a week before to avoid the traffic at the mirrors
Unfortunately, due to a bogus database query authored by myself, some notifications got sent out to folks who aren't members of the 2.1 EAP program.
I apologize for the mistake, but the pre-release download access is for current members and subscribers only. You'll still be able to download it in 7 days regardless
Sorry for the spam!

Of course we sent out an e-mail stating what Ed said. However, that has not stopped many dozens of people complaining of problems logging in when they never signed up for any of the Early Access Programs and they aren't in our purchase database.
For those who think this is really clever, it is not. It takes us 5 seconds to look up a substring of your e-mail name in our database and verify that many of you have never purchased a single Early Access membership.

I was wondering what was up with the email -- while I'm an EAP member, I received the 2.1 download notification four times in the space of an hour last night. (A mild annoyance, nothing more.) Was this another side-effect of the bad query?

Could be. After seeing your post, I noticed that there are some cases where your e-mail would show up multiple times if you made more than one purchase.

That may clear things up -- I've made three EAP purchases using that email addy. Not a big deal, really.

Sorry about all the foibles, really it wasn't my intention to spam people at all! The EAP list was too large for regular mail clients to handle on a BCC list so I tried to whip together a db query + script to handle it...we'll polish the query so these kinds of things don't happen in the future
