|
I'm thinking about writing a tutorial series on using Base. I'm trying to develop a database to serve as a Birder's journal, tracking field trips, sightings, etc. Partially I want to do this because I want to learn more about how to use Base and this is a good way to learn. I figured I might as well write a series of articles as I move through each step.
So here's my question: what should the "master" name of this tutorial be?
Here are some options:
A NeoWiki Elf's Base Tutorials
Elven Base Tutorials
Arwen's Base Tutorials (think Aragorn's love)
I'm open to other suggestions; they don't need to pick up on the wiki elf theme.

"To BASE, and back again"
A series of articles on learning how to use BASE module in NeoOffice. (slight nod to Hobbits! )
"Learning to use BASE"
A series of tutorials on how I learned to use BASE ...

SOLD!
I LIKE it. Not sure if it's the best title for a Wiki article/tutorial - but Who cares!

Quote: | "All your BASE Are Belong to Neo" |
Would somebody clue me in on the connection? All I see is a grammatically incorrect sentence, but I've seen the same pattern elsewhere, so I presume there's a pop culture reference I'm missing?

Gasp,
A Mystic Wiki Elf can't find a reference ... in Google? tee hee
The quote should be "All your base are belong to us". It's a popular "pop culture reference".

Philippe ( Oh Wow, I knew "a pop culture reference". Cool? ) |

I will admit, checking Google didn't occur to me.
But the other reference I've seen is "All your bible (are) belong to us." So I presumed that both "bible" and "base" were replacing a word in the original pop culture reference.
Thanks for the link! |

In the end, I opted for To Base and Back Again
"All your Base are belong to us" is a more contemporary pop culture reference, but it was foreign enough to me that I opted for a reference more familiar to me.
At the moment, all that exists is the "home" page for the tutorial series and the (essentially empty) page for the first installment. I've got that article and at least one more to write before I'm caught up with where I'm at in the process of actually creating my Birder's Journal database.
Thanks for the suggestions! |

Good title, and an EXCELLENT tutorial series.
I look forward to reading, and learning, how to use the BASE module better. I find it hard to learn something new when you don't have a goal in mind, and just poking at at it.
Many THANKS for doing this.

Not to be incredibly dull here, but what is the reference.. "to XXX and back again?"

Lord of the Rings.
I believe "To ? and back again" it the title of Bilbo Baggins book.
Ahh, Google search provides: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hobbit revels that it should be " The Hobbit Or There and Back Again By JRR Tolkien": http://www.amazon.com/Hobbit-There-Again-J-R-R-Tolkien/dp/B000GELGW6
So I suppose the Wiki article would be "more" official if it was something like:
or " BASE and back again",
The "NeoOffice or BASE and back again" ....
OR
We can start our own mis-translation contemporary pop culture reference. tee hee
I say let's keep "To BASE and back again".
We can say it's a ... test to see if anyone catches the (obscure ) reference?
Philip ( Sigh, even my pop culture references are to obscure? ) |

"To Base and Back Again" also has the connotation of getting into working with Base and getting back out alive
