|
FYI. I filed bug 2542 today when I discovered that images were getting "downscaled" to 300 DPI when printing even when the various reduce bitmaps resolution options were unchecked in the Tools :: Options :: NeoOffice :: Print panel.
Anyway, the fix was pretty simple and I have posted a test patch in that bug. If anyone could test this test patch out, that would be very helpful. Please note that due to OOo's inability to do direct transparent drawing, images will still be limited to 300 DPI if you have any transparent shapes or images in your document.

I'd like to help, but how can I know in which resolution an image is printed?
Sorry, maybe it's a silly question

Here's how I checked my code:
1. Insert a very large image in a document and make sure that it is sized much smaller than the actual image. For example, if you have a 1000 x 1000 pixel image and you make it 5 cm x 5 cm in your document, then you will effectively have a 500 DPI image in your document.
2. Open the original large image that you inserted in the Preview application and zoom in until the image size is roughly equal to the size of your screen.
3. Print your document to the Preview application and zoom in until the image within the Preview window is also roughly equal to the size of your screen.
If my code is working, the image in 3 will be as clear as in 2. However, if my code is not working or you have NeoOffice set to reduce bitmaps or you are printing transparent objects over the image, the image will become very unclear and jagged.
Hope that helps,
Patrick |

Thanks Patrick,
It seems to work fine on Intel. Not still tested on PPC. Tomorrow

FYI. I have also removed the 300 DPI limit when printing transparent images and shapes and I have posted a new test patch in bug 2542 with these additional fixes.
If this last test patch looks OK. I'll put it in an official Neo 2.2.1 EA patch within the next week and I will remove the 300 DPI limitation from the main web site's Features and Bugs page.

Looks like we've picked up an issue with Test Patch 2. We have a Writer document with images that crashes on printing from Patch1-TestPatch2 but which does not crash from vanilla Patch1.
I'm looking for crash log now and will file to bug 2542 with sample document. _________________ Ray Saunders

Just tried NeoOffice-2.2.1_Early_Access-Patch-1-Test-3-Intel and crash persists. Not able to find any crash log via Console/Crash Reporter. _________________ Ray Saunders

Thanks for the sample document. It is more than enough for me to debug and fix this so don't worry about a crash log for this bug.

I've installed Test Patch 2 and now I have an image with transparency that doesn't print correctly.
I've opened bug 2549 and attached the image and a document and pdf generated by Printing to Preview.
I can still print it correctly if I export to PDF first.
