Thanks, Jacqueline! I've polished it.

I do have one question for other English speakers, especially those most likely to use Calc in the way Jacqueline describes. Should "data" be treated as a plural or a singular?

Currently the article uses phrases "these data" and "those data." My first instinct was to "correct" these to "this data" and "that data," but I did some checking and discovered that the plural/singular question for data is rather controversial, and is handled differently by different disciplines. (i.e. scientists tend to use the plural, IT folks tend to use the singular). The generic "person on the street"--at least in the US--tends to use the singular.

I've left it plural, on the presumption that this would sound better to mathmeticians and scientists who are most likely to use the article, but it can be changed if the majority opts for singular.
