This is something I would like to see as well, but I don't know if it is possible (either in terms of technical issues or time/resource issues).

I am personally hoping that by NeoOffice 3.0, the OOo extensions mechanism will have matured somewhat, and that there will be enough users out there for people to start writing this kind of plugin.
Though I am utterly unsure if this particular feature will be technically feasible.
Best wishes,

The iLife Media Browser is a private framework developed by Apple and is not open for third parties to use directly. If you're running 10.5, however, many of the media browser features for navigating through iLife content are available from the regular file dialogs. In the sidebar on the right (the one that lists the drives) scroll all the way down and you should see a section titled "Media". That will list pictures, movies, and audio content from iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie. We use native file dialogs in Neo, so that media browser within the file dialog should be accessible.

iPhoto running in background showing same selected album to verify thumbnails are correct. Silly thing still needs lots of work, threading and flavor issues, needed build system work to even get this far. I doubt it'd be ready for 2.2.3, prob. release after. Although it displays iPhoto/iTunes/iMovie content it will take a bit to get it to interact in a meaningful way.

I didn't write the browser; it's another open source project. However it needs some serious architectural tweaking to become compatible with OOo (and vice versa). Right now the DnD is copying summary text; I need to tweak the drag flavors/promises. It still needs other build system work beyond that to match how Patrick and I are adding new features and maintaining 10.3 compatibility with installs on shared home folders/locations.
She ain't pretty and needs quite a bit of elbow grease but at least a proof of concept is there.

Sorry - I did it because I'm weak... it's not often that I have to scroll sideways that far to read a thread! FWIW, if I'm posting a big screen shot I generally throw it at ImageWell and knock it down to 800 max, since I once got slaughtered by someone in a forum for posting a 1400 wide image. On the other hand, it's nice to see the prettiness at full throttle. |

I can always scale down the pic to a thumbnail
Patrick gave me some tips on a better way than just egregiously hacking the build system. I'm hoping we'll be able to finish the media browser in the April/May time period. There are just a lot of interactions right now that make it too rough for 2.2.3 and require a lot more testing, esp. as right now I don't know how to integrate it without breaking 10.3 support or adding in an old shared component we ditched.
