PostPosted: Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:40 am    Post subject: Translating Jacqueline's Tribute in the wiki

I only just discovered Patrick's wonderful tribute to Jacqueline on the main page of the wiki. He has added the English version to the French main page, but it needs to be translated. I've made a stab at it, with a little help from WordReference.com, but it should be vetted by someone more fluent than I before I add it.

Here's the English version:

Quote:
The NeoOffice community mourns the loss of our friend Jacqueline Gouguenheim-Desloy who has passed away. Jacqueline, who went by "jgd" in the NeoOffice forums, worked tirelessly to find answers to any problems that NeoOffice users encountered. In addition, Jacqueline not only wrote and translated numerous articles on this site, but she also co-authored the NeoOffice User's Guide. Jacqueline was one of those rare people that had a huge positive impact in many of our lives and we will miss her dearly.

And here's my initial translation:

Quote:

Yes, caught that a while ago. Re: helping you with French - sorry - I know some Japanese, and German, and dabble with Indonesian/Bihasi?, Chinese, and Hindi, and a few others. French - I wish...

Could you give it a go in German? Right now we're using the English version on all the language Main Pages, and we've had no one maintaining the German wiki in some time.

Ideally we'd get the tribute translated into all of the wiki languages, but French is certainly the first priority....

Smokey, Sorry my german is very limited at present. due to not using it very much other than for my dog stuff re: lineage - pedigree info and kor reports in German....I had German 40 years ago and since then it has been somewhat limited to my K-9 world.... Maybe if I get a new client from Germany I can ask her to do it as a favor. I do apologize. I do not feel confident enough to attempt it.

(as an aside: when I studied japanese - I studied it 10-12 hrs a day for a few years and was Ok at the beginning medium level; but 6 months to a year later not using it everyday you would not believe how much i forgot....

it is a shame.

Watashi no Nihongo zenbu wasuremashita!

So desu ne!

Lorinda

English summary: I used hi_RAM's corrected version for the wiki. We both thought it might be better to leave NeoOffice Users Guide in English, since there isn't a French version, so I made that one change.

Smokey, I wish I could help. I try to help out around here whenever I can and whenever I find something that may be useful. That is where I am at. I Know where my weak points are and I would hate to bastardize the German translation....

I am afraid my help is rather limited around here due to lack of knowledge of Neo or in this case Languages.

And you've proved yourself quite helpful doing just that. It's much appreciated!
