Wow 3.0 - Nice! and a day early too I believe.
One quick observation: Neo loads a tad slower even after it was opened on the macbook pro core duo.
another note: fan is running on the PPC. Remember the fan issue and Mac Java situation of last year or was it 2 years ago.
I have a slow old 12" powerbook ppc too. Fan just turned off a couple of minutes after Neo was closed. I am not sure this is anything yet - but will keep you posted.
Thanks you for all of the hard tedious work. Much appreciated! |

OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 is definitely a lot "beefier" than OpenOffice.org 2.2.1 so I am not surprised that you find NeoOffice 3.0 a bit slower and more of a CPU hog than NeoOffice 2.2.5.
There are some tricks and refactoring of code that we did to hide some of the extra weight in the OpenOffice.org 3.0.1 code such as updating the menubar's menus only when there are some spare time between key and mouse events and delaying loading of many OpenOffice.org libraries until later in the startup process, but I still think NeoOffice 3.0 will be slower than NeoOffice 2.2.5.

see my 2nd post while you were writing your response. It seems fine!
I have 3.0 not 3.0.1 there seems to be no updates available on both machines.

FYI. NeoOffice 3.0 is our latest release. It is based on OpenOffice.org 3.0.1. Hence the confusing version numbers in my post.

As to the fan on the 12", you may want to check CPU load with "Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor". On my old TiBook, after upgrading the hard drive the fan comes on any time there's any CPU load now. I suspect there's a slightly larger memory footprint which might be one of the causes (VM swapping).
But thanks for the kind word. The real heroes are Patrick and Fran who really keep providing world class support for everyone

While I didn't check for it in the Activity Monitor, I suspect some Spotlight reindexing comes with replacing the NeoLight extension. |

Ah yes, that will happen when installing patches. The reindex is needed to workaround issues with keeping unique IDs for the Spotlight bundles. That prevents bugs with bundles being loaded from multiple different locations. I forgot we had to work around that limitation.
