Oscar,
Can you install NeoOffice 3.0.1 Early Access Patch 1 that I released today and see if you still get the crash? It may not make any difference, but maybe the fix for bug 3555 might fix your crashing bug or at least move the location of the crash.
If it still crashes, can you attach a new crash log?

No luck on the crashing front, but I am attaching a new crash log for you to pick apart.
Best wishes,

One more question: since we cannot reproduce this crashing bug and you helped test some of my pre-release builds, is it possible that you did not install the very last pre-release build?
The last build is the one that was also released on 15 September 2009 and it had a bug fix that you will not get by installing patches (I put that bug fix in to reduce the patch size).

I think I did, but I will download again to make sure.
Update: I reinstalled 3.0.1EA and it crashed like clockwork...
Best wishes,
Oscar

Does the crashing still occur in NeoOffice 3.0.2 Early Access?

What is interesting is that your document opens without crashing for me. Your last crash log indicates that the crash is occurring in NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org chart module so I wonder if there is something in the linked files that is causing the crash. I only have your .xls file, not any of the linked files.

It opens just fine for me. Just that sheet causes it to crash . And I tell it not to update the linked files..
It remains a mystery to me. I can attach the new crash log (I switched to Snow Leopard since the previous one), but it is probably not going to tell you much.
Best wishes,

That would be good if you can attach a new crash log. It may not help any, but it cannot hurt. Hopefully, there is something different in the 10.6 crash log that might give us a clue.

It is weird that I cannot reproduce this in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or 10.6.2 on my Intel machine. Although I am not sure, your crash logs seem to indicate that the Mac OS X XML parser is failing when parsing the embedded chart and that, in turn, causes NeoOffice's underlying OpenOffice.org code to eventually crash.
So I think we need to try to determine what is different on your machine from ours and investigate those differences. The first things that come to mind to try are the following. Can you try doing the following steps and see if the crashing stops?:
1. Run a disk repair on your main volume, by rebooting your machine and holding the Command-S keys when you reboot. When the screen display white text on a black background, type the following commands, press the Return key, and wait until your machine reboots itself after a few minutes:
2. Create a new empty folder on your Desktop and copy your .xls file into that folder and then open that copied file in NeoOffice. Do not copy any of the files that your .xls file links to. This will hopefully simulate our machines by ensuring that NeoOffice cannot resolve any links in the copied file.

I tried the steps you suggested and still got a crash. The fsck gave three errors of 'missing thread record'. _________________ "What do you think of Western Civilization?"

I also noticed something:
If you cancel the document recovery after restarting after a crash, there is no window opened, and I only get the NeoOffice menu.
Best wishes,

That does not sound good. I have never seen such an error. Sometimes I have seen "catalog error", but nothing about "missing thread record". If you run disk repair again, does this error reoccur or does it appear to be fixed by the last disk repair.
