Joining Jim on this - as per my workflow I have to work with
1. .xls + .xlt file types forwarding these to the ROW as MS Excel files
2. .ods + .odt file types storing and emailing as odf
As the 'Save as' function saves automatically in the file type specified in 'Options - Load/Save - General', changing the file name will inadvertently lead to saving in pre-selected file type.
Keeping the file-type of the original instead of rigorous keeping on default may be found advantageous (like OOo does).

Which OpenOffice.org version does this? NeoOffice 3.1.2 is based on OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 so your post implies that Oracle's OpenOffice.org engineers added this new feature in a very recent version.

I just checked and the behavior you describe occurs in OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 (the version that NeoOffice 3.1.2 is based on) so this appears to a bug in the NeoOffice code. It appears that the file type list box is not getting properly set so it defaults to the first one in the list which is always an ODF file format.
I will investigate this particular bug and post when I have some news to report.

FYI: I have created bug 3635 to track this issue.

Hi Patrick,
downloaded and tested the Intel version. Works just perfect.
Thanks,

FYI. I have included the fix for the OpenOffice.org incorrect Notes setting bug in NeoOffice 3.1.2 Patch 1. You can download the patch from the NeoOffice patch download page.
