Can you attach your .xlsx document so that we can attempt to reproduce the error that you see?
To attach a document to your next post, following the instructions in this forum topic.

The problem is that your document's filename ends with ".xls" and that is confusing NeoOffice. The ".xls" filename makes NeoOffice think it is an older, pre-2007 Excel format.
I changed the filename to end with ".xslx" and I was then able to open the document. Does changing the file to end with ".xlsx" using the following steps allow you to open the document?:
1. Select the document in the Finder and press the Return key to go into filename edit mode
2. Move the cursor to the end of the filename, change ".xls" to ".xlsx", and press the Return key
3. In the dialog that appears, press the "Use .xlsx" button
