|
I'm just back from a week of nearly-round-the-clock work on this year's version of the first big project I did all in Neo/J (0.8.x) last year.
To me, Neo/J seemed quite sluggish this time around, even when it was the only app running on the Mac. Things I did last year (having 50 5-6 page text-only Writer documents at a time open and maximizing them as needed) I never would have been to do this year; things were very sluggish with just two documents open.
I'm on a fresh profile (somehow my old profile stopped auto-converting straight quotes and I couldn't fix it--the pref was already enabled; the fresh profile refused to export extendedPDFs, even with the 0.9.3 version that was working in the old profile, so I don't know what's up).
I don't remember Alpha 1 or 2 being this sluggish, but I didn't spend as much time working in them.
Anyone have any suggestions (or anyone seeing something similar)?
Pretty much the only two variables here are the Neo/J version and the Mac OS X version (then in the early 10.3.x series, now 10.3.7).... 512 MB RAM in a PB G4 1.33 GHz, still 35 GB free HD....

Er, Patch-9, sorry . My brain is not back to firing on all cylinders at all times yet.

Try downloading "TestPatch-9.3" in bug 602. Not only does this patch have interapplication drag-and-drop support, but it has a bunch of text layout fixes that may be the cause of the sluggishness.

Those *#%S@#4 text layout routines again
Thanks; I'll check it out when I'm more rested and doing the follow-up work

In just some simple playing around, it does seem to be a lot less sluggish
Too bad this patch wasn't ready last week, or my work wasn't this week
On the other hand, I did actually use text drag-and-drop in Neo/J for the first time on this project, and that was really cool!

"Patch-10" is the latest patch and has some slight speed improvements.
