OK, so I broke down and bought the retail version of 10.4 since schleshi's feedback on the spotlight plugin indicated changes between my crufty prerelease...much to my surprise...

CodeWarrior Pro 8 can actually debug CFM apps under 10.4 GM. It's a miracle. Never before has CodeWarrior debugging actually worked across a major OS X update. Phemonenal.

Now I can put it on my main dev machine Very Happy

I think I just saw another: A NeoOffice/J developer actually applauding compatibility across an update for Mac OS X...

I suppose there's a first time for everything Smile.

I haven't done exhaustive testing of Neo/J on 10.4 final yet, so I'm not holding my breath. If I can do my standard smoke test I'll be pleased, but I'd put money on the fact there are crashes lurking in there that aren't part of my standard tests for each OS update.

Even more miraculous is that the software I write at my real job also seems to be working flawlessly. Carbon was horrifically hosed in prerelease 10.4 builds, but it looks like they really took the time to work out the kinks. And I was dreading having to rewrite all my print dialog extensions, CFM <-> MachO glue (yup, we still have some OS 9 customers to support), floating windows, QuickTime, etc.

This is the first update where on first glance it all seems to still work fine. Go Carbon team!

The other amazing thing that this implies is that the Java 1.3.1 VM upon which Neo/J runs may not be as horrendously hosed as I feared it could become in 10.4. If my old crufty Carbon app still using WaitNextEvent() is working fine, that bodes well for the old buckyball VM code.
