In Slovak language we use many diacritics such as accents and hiccups. I am not able to type some of them which are not located directly on the keyboard. Normaly first the diacritical sign should be written and then the letter. It works in many editors, but in OpenOffice and on NeoOffice under Mac it doesn't. Can you help me? Thanks.

What version of Mac OS X are you using?

There's a series of threads thread below discussing the various issues:

1. Czech/Slovak dead keys *do* work with Mac OS X standard keyboard layouts in Neo/J 1.1 under Mac OS X 10.3.9

1a. Non-standard layouts (Loki's) might work with the new Performance Test Patch, since Java 1.4.x might be able to handle those layouts.

2. There is an as-yet undetermined bug or change in Mac OS X 10.4.x that breaks certain dead keys in certain keyboard layouts in Neo/J 1.1 (Czech and Slovak, but not French or German or Dutch). (Current Neo/J bug about the issue. This might have been fixed by the Performance Test Patch, too, but only if the problem was related to the non-standard issue in 1a. As of yet the developers haven't been able to reproduce the bug, so it's a very tiny or specific change that is breaking things.)

Have you tried downloading and installing the Performance Test Patch? Download instructions for the patch are in the article at http://trinity.neooffice.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=100.

That's good to hear!

For the post-mortem on this, it sounds like Apple changed the keyboard formats of the Czech and Slovak layouts in Mac OS X 10.4 to one of the formats that Java 1.3.1 did not understand (bug 258, I think, described custom keyboards for which this was an issue).
