I'm a journalyst in some spanish magazines... We work with Mac OSX 1.3.9 The NeoOffice/J application is more slow, and all the programs work slowly when I execute NeoOffice. The functions are so usefull, but the speed is horrible.

Which is the future? More speed in process?????

P.D. We note that a find/replace no-printable characters is neccesary, do the next versión work with it?

Hi,

try to put more memory in your computer. neooffice takes a lot of ram to work fine, and it is a good idea keep it open everytime.

about no printable character look in help for find/replace options.

The next version of NeoOffice/J (1.2) will be faster in many respects and will use less RAM than the current stable release (1.1 patch 0 applied), so yes, it is going to get faster. It may not be massively so, but things will improve.

Yeah, if you're seeing other applications running slower, it's a definite sign your computers will need more memory. Both OOo and Neo are very hefty applications in the sense that they need a lot of supporting code in order to run, and that's most likely what's causing your machine to swap incoherently.

A great little application that I always keep running on my computers at home and at work is Memory Monitor:

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11529&vid=127288

(not sure if it's still available, but it's GPL so I can put it back up somewhere if you can't find it)

It displays a dock tile that gives you a graphic of memory usage in the computer as well as indications of page ins/page outs to show when memory is being swapped to and from the hard drive. I use it since I already have Activity Monitor doing its CPU load thing in the dock tile. I always find whenever I'm troubleshooting machine performance, locked applications, or doing my own development, having that kind of continuous performance feedback is a godsend.

Couldn't agree more - I've been using it since the 10.0.x days (or 10.1.x at the least... so long ago now I can't remember which):

My god, I would have updated to 0.8.x at the very least by now Wink What on earth is keeping you on version 0.7?

FWIW, that screen shot is very old... hence the brown icon. I can't help but think that also demonstrates a bug with 0.7 or 0.8 or whatever version it was I was running then - notice how the app has launched but the icon is still bouncing and is without a black triangle (edit: er, because you cropped the bottom of the screen off you dummy! Embarassed hehehe)
