I have a problem since at least the last patch...

Helvetica normal don't display normal but crazy :

in Write typing "normal" will give something like 'I mpk_i'

in Calc a cell with 'DEM001' display 'BCL- 11'

No problem when changing Helvetica normal to bold or italic or with some of my other fonts...

[edit] I applied the patch 1 to a backup copy (without test patches) The problem disapear... but display is quite strange look more than Helvetica condensed...

I don't like the look of the fonts under patch 1 Crying or Very sad
so I reinstall a copy of patch 0

It sounds like you might have a case of duplicate fonts installed for the same name. The character mismatch behavior that you describe can happen when you have installed two different fonts with the same family name. In that case, Cocoa uses font A while Java uses font B and you get weird output.

To correct this situation, open the Font Book application, go the the font family name that you are seeing trouble, and see if any of the fonts within that font family are listed twice (e.g. two Regular entries). If so, disable the duplicate fonts so that there is only one entry per font name and restart NeoOffice.

Hello Patrick,

I had a look in FontBook and I found 2 Helvetica fonts : Regulard and Bold activated I disabled one (I keep the font in System Library on boot disk).

If I open (or print) a document in alpa 4 patch 1. The fonts are condensed and the Euro symbol disappear.

with alpha 4 patch 0. The font is good and the euro symbol appear.

BTW There no conflict reported in Lynotype FontExplorer...

Can you create a bug in Bugzilla for this issue? I assume that my new code has some font name matching issues between Cocoa and Java (they both use slightly different names) and we will need a bug so that I can post test patches.

I will try my English is very.. rought... BUT I am now quite lost because :

I had a look to the duplicate fonts : The 2 Helvetica active were Os X and Classic...

In 2 a4 1 Helvetica don't appear in the font list (about 495 fonts are listed) so Helvetica Neu is used...

In 2 a4 about 816 fonts are displayed (Names WYSIWYG)

I ask a friend to apply the patch 4a 1 and have a look to one of my files : Euro symbol in Helvetica normal don't display ! (If I understand euro symbol is displayed as >) no problem with Helvetica bold or another font.

He is also running 10.3.9... on an Ibook G4

Same problem ?

Your bug description is fine. Copy and paste it into a new bug in Bugzilla and I will assign it to myself.
