Hi
I've imported templates from MS Office via Document converter wizard into ~/Library/Preferences/NeoOffice-2.x/user/template/Imported_Templates. When I open this file, I see the docs, but when I try to open a 'new from template', they aren't available. If I open the Template Management window some are there, but with weird names (possibly extracts from the doc's text??).

I'm so glad of the chance to get away from Office X. but I need these templates. Tried workarounds, but no luck. Any ideas?

Cheers and greetings from London

Try this:

Open one of your Office Templates in Neo
Go to File>Templates>Save
In the resulting dialog box, select the category (folder) you want, and give the template a name.

I have several Office templates that came with the Office test drive on my iBook. This process works with both the spreadsheet and Word processing templates. I can't get it to work with the powerpoint themes, however. (I get an I/O error) [EDIT: It will work with presentations. You must put them in "My Templates" or another folder you create in the Template Management window, not in the "Presentations" or "Presentation Backgrounds" folders that come with Neo.]

Another more convoluted approach is to:
open the file
save as a Neo (open) template file
go to File>Templates>Organize
select the category (folder) you want
you can create a new folder by pressing the commands button and choosing new.
press the commands button and choose "Import template" (note that you must have selected a folder in order for this optiont to show up.
navigate to the saved file you want to add to your templates.

It has been my experience that templates must first be saved in a "neo" format before they can be imported.

As with the first method I suggested, I can't get this to work with presentations. This time I get a an error message that indicates the file may already exist. (Ed and/or Patrick: should I submit this as a bug? OR am I missing something?) [EDIT: See my first edit for the solution]

You can file a bug, but as you might already know, if the same bug exists in OpenOffice.org 2.0.3, we won't fix it.

I added a link to Lorinda's tip on the Styles and Templates page on the wiki. Smile

Smokey:

wow! I'm honored! Smile

Patrick:

I searched the OOo issue reporter and didn't find a bug report there that matched the behavior I'm seeing, so I filed bug 1890 in Bugzilla

With the help of some folks at Bugzilla, I got the problem figured out, and it's not really a bug at all. You just can't save templates to the folders that come pre-installed with Neo (except for "My templates")

Bugzilla won't let me log back in to update it, but I've notified the two people who were helping me with it, and I'll update Bugzilla once I can get back in.

Since Smokey put a link in the wiki to my first post, I've edited it to reflect what I've discovered.
