Mac OS X 10.3.3
OOo 1.1.0
GCC Elite 12/600N printer, upgraded for OS X.

Drivers installed using GCC installer.
Elite 12/600N added to printer list in Printer Setup Utility.

Elite 12/600N can be selected from the printer list in OOo - [name enclosed in <>, what does that mean?]

However, default is to Generic.
Cannot set Elite 12/600N to Default in spadmin - no driver in the list.
Cannot find any other place to set default printer.
OpenOffice.org 1.0 Resource Kit refers only to the spadmin method of setting the default.

How do I get the default to my Elite 12/600N printer?

Thanx

Al Maloney

Note that 1.1.0 is a "developer's release" and has a known race condition in printing that Dan made patches for with 1.1.1. You may want to trawl through the testing forums for assistance in 1.1.0 printing.

Have you installed 1.0.3 GM on the machine? You may be missing ghostscript from your system and need to install it in order to print from OOo on Mac OS X.

Thank you for your reply.
I'm new to this method of communication.
I should have mentioned that I can print with the Elite 12/600N by selecting it from the list with the <> brackets. I can choose the MP tray as well as the regular tray.

I "simply" cannot make it the default printer, and must select it each time I have a new document - a nuisance.

In spadmin I can select my Apple LaserWriter 630 Pro fom the list of supplied drivers, and make it my default printer.
There is no driver for my GCC Elite 12/600N in the list.
How do I get it there?
I think if I could get the driver into the list I could then make the Elite 12/600N the default printer.
Using the «Import» search I cannot find a file that contains the driver.

The printers that show up in the brackets are "special" to OS X in that there's special code in OOo that extracts their features from the PPDs and CUPS system in 10.2+. You actually can't use spadmin to configure them. So I'm not sure if you can map Generic Printer onto one of those.

The only workaround that I'm aware of is that you can make your Epson the default printer in OS X Print Center. When you use the generic printer the documents should be sent to your default printer. Of course you won't be able to select any of the output options for your Epson, though.
