|
While I am running the early access version with the latest patch it doesn't seem to detect that my Icelandic native OS X spell checker supports Icelandic and is visible in all Cocoa applications.
Is the support for OS X spell checkers limited to the Apple-supplied languages or should it support 3rd party solutions as well? |

Good question. In theory, if the native spellchecking works in the TextEdit application, we should be able to get it to work in NeoOffice. Can you try the following steps?:
1. Quit NeoOffice
2. Create an empty folder called "is.lproj" in the /Applications/NeoOffice.app/Contents/Resources folder
3. Restart NeoOffice
Please let me know if this works or not.
Patrick

NeoOffice probably only supports Apple-supplied dictionaries, although I'd never heard that you could add dictionaries to expand the supported languages of the native spellchecker. Could you give us more information about where you got your Icelandic spellchecker (hopefully, it is freely available) ?
However, when a language is not supplied by Apple, you can still install and use an OpenOffice.org dictionary (if available). More information can be found on the wiki.
Edit : I see Patrick beat me to it. Please follow his advice before installing any OOo dictionary. |

Great!
I created the fake localization folder and indeed it now works.
Samwise, FYI the Icelandic spell server for OS X is available here. (It is a commercial product).
The reason for people to use that in stead of a Hunspell one is that Icelandic is a very complex language that cannot be covered by those smaller lists used to create those dictionaries. Also, it works in many apps like Safari, Pages, Keynote, Mail, Adium, iChat etc.
I would like to thank the NeoOffice guys for supporting the OS X spell checker. (It is something Microsoft should have done a long time ago) |

I've very roughly added a note about this to the wiki page; there are several other NSSpellchecker plugins avaliable for other languages
