Thanks Patrick and Ed. Great work!

Here are the results of my tests:

1) Paste from Camera and Scanner works well.
It worked immediately on Pb G4, it was a bit more difficult on iMac Intel: I had to restart NeoOffice, but eventually it works.

2) Insert Video: I checked only with .mov files, and oddly some of them open in NeoOffice, and some don't: I get the message "The format of the selected file is not supported". Same behavior on the two machines: the same files open and the same don't.

Leopard 10.5.1
Pb G4, iMac Intel
Scanner Epson Perfection 2400

In what format are the .mov videos that don't open?

In what format are the .mov videos that don't open?

And can you play them in the QuickTime Player application?

1) I can insert some movies into both Writer and Impress. However, there are many movies that Quicktime can play that I cannot insert. Some just are greyed out in the selection box, even though they are playable by Quicktime, whereas others are .mov files and are available in the selection box. But when I try to insert them, I get an alert box that tells me that "The format of the selected file is not supported."

What is the file extension for the greyed out files?

SteveRead wrote:
2) Of the movies I can insert into both Writer and Impress, once I insert a movie into Writer, I can't delete it. That is I can click on it and select it, but I cannot delete. But I have no problem deleting it from Impress.

AFAICT, this seems to be normal (but unintuitive) behavior of Write: selecting Cut will not cut the movie object. Instead, Cut (and the delete key) will only cut selected text and the movies anchored to the text.

So, to delete a movie, you neext to Control-click on the movie and select Anchor :: As Character. Then you can select the movie and delete it.

3) I have tried the scanner software with a Brother MFC 9600. So far it seems a little flaky. I can get it to scan (sometimes), but it doesn't seem to put the picture on the clipboard and it is not automatically pasting the picture into the open Writer document.

Does this same flakiness occur in the /Applications/Image Capture application?

I don't know. How can I know the format? They were made in iMovie, but those that open were made in iMovie too…

Yes, no problem with Quick Time.

Jacqueline, can you attach a small .mov file that won't open in Bugzilla? In theory, Apple's QTMovie APIs that I use should open any movie that QuickTime Player should so maybe the OOo code is rejecting the file somewhere and I will need to fix that.

The movies that are greyed out have .wmv and .mp4 extensions. But I can play them with the quicktime player.

As to the scanner support, I just tried Image Capture alone, without NeoOffice and that isn't working properly with my Brother MFC-9600, so I guess its not surprising that it isn`t working with Neo

Great,

I've tested the import from scanner Epson 2450. Everything ok

I've tested with some .mov. Everything ok, but it's really special to delete them.

Thanks for your job

For those who don't have an Image Capture supported device, in theory our old friend TWAIN-SANE will bridge the gap (provided your scanner is supported by SANE, which mine also is not Razz ). It still is a bit like building a suspension bridge with gravel and baling wire, but if it does work, the Image Capture UI is far, far superior to OOo's own SANE scanning UI.

The problem with deleting a movie in a Writer document is definitely an OpenOffice.org bug as I was able to reproduce the same bug on Windows XP with OOo 2.3.1.

I have filed a bug 85622 in OOo's IssueZilla for this.

Fortunately, there is a workaround. Control-click on the movie and select Anchor :: As Character from the popup menu. Then place the cursor immediately after the movie and press the Delete key.

I've no small files. The smallest is 10Mb in size. I can't attach it in Bugzilla. I try to find a way to send it to you.

Is there any relationship between movie file size and the ability to open the movie in NeoOffice?

No, I don't think so.

You can download a .mov file which doesn't open from my iDisk

Hope the download works well Smile

Same problem with Neige ne Octobre.mov (Jacqueline's video): it opens and plays fine in QuickTime 7.4, but not in NeoOffice.
