Danke Mike Crying or Very sad

I suppose you imported the document from another application, or would know what you put in there.

These grey bits are either background colouring, which you can remove by choosing the top menu item in the Format menu (standard formatting, might be different in a german-localized NeoOffice), or they could be codes or anchors (for cross-referencing etc).

You can find out by exporting to PDF. If you still see the grey bits in the PDF, they are actualy formatting. If they disappear, the grey squares are merely an indication by NeoOffice of where some invisible information used to construct and lay out your document is located among the text.

In that case, I would wonder why this document has these codes in such weird places, but not worry too much about them.

Best wishes,
Oscar

Maybe these grey marks are some non printing characters (such as non-breaking hyphens). You might try this way:
select the View menu and see if Field Shadings is checked. If yes, uncheck it.
(Ansicht > Markierungen)

I've seen this kind of behavior with some MS Word documents. As Jacqueline indicated it is related to hyphenation. Her suggestion of turning off field shadings has corrected it for me.
