If you are a subscriber to the NeoJUpdate mailing list and rely on that mailing list to get notified of any NeoOffice release announcements, I have some bad news: the NeoJUpdate mailing list is offline.
The NeoJUpdate mailing list was setup and maintained by a NeoOffice volunteer several years ago when we had no other means to send out release announcements. Unfortunately, the NeoOffice volunteer had to shut down the old, obsolete server that the mailing list was running on.
While our plan was to move the mailing list to NeoOffice.org's mail server, we have found that the amount of effort to implement this fallback plan is not trivial and, more worrisome, involves a lot of tweaking to our existing mail servers. Because of the effort and risk involved in moving the mailing list to our servers, it is likely that the NeoJUpdate mailing list offline permanently.
Since the mailing list went offline, the following two release announcements have been made:
Fortunately, there are two alternative options that users can use to get notified of any release announcements. If you are a subscriber to the NeoJUpdate mailing list and want to continue to get notified of any release announcements, we recommend that you use one or both of the following options:
- Subscribe to our release announcements RSS feed by clicking on this RSS feed using your web browser or RSS aggregrator
- Register for e-mail notification of any release announcements posted in this forum topic by clicking on this link
If anyone is going to be seriously impacted and feels that none of the above two alternative options can adequately replace the mailing list, please let us know. While the mailing list will definitely remain offline for the short term, if a lot of people really need this service, we can take a second look at moving the mailing list to our servers after NeoOffice 3.0 is released and the first wave of support requests and bugs are handled.
Edit by pluby: corrected typos and made alternative options clearer

I've updated the English release notes for 2.2.5 and 3.0EA2 in the wiki to reflect the current state of the notification options.
Thanks Smokey. BTW, I edited my post to make the steps for using the alternative options clearer. If you think my edited options are better, feel free to put them in the NeoWiki.

FYI. I have replaced the NeoJUpdate section of the NeoOffice support page with the following text. If anyone can translate this text, it would be much appreciated:

I've signed up for the forwarding from your forum notifications, but if I hadn't already had a forums account, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Mailing lists are simple, forums and RSS feeds take fiddling.

One more FYI: I just send an e-mail to the mailing list with the same content as my first post in this forum topic. Of course, since the mailing list is offline, I had to manual copy and paste each of the 1000+ mailing list members into the BCC line of the e-mail.

That e-mail list was a great convenience and I'll miss the updates. Guess I'll just have to get accustomed to the alternatives and "accept those things I cannot change..."
I did make me smile getting an email from the list to tell me that I shouldn't be getting it - there's not enough surreal in this practical NeoOffice universe. I feel a play coming on - 'NeoJList & Gildenstern Are Dead', or maybe 'Waiting For GodOOot' is more appropriate...
Joking aside, thanks for keeping everyone so well informed, Patrick.
