I have discovered a reproducible crashing bug involving merged cells in Calc.
To reproduce:
1. Copy text from one merged set of cells to another set of merged cells.
2. Use Cmd-Z or select Edit :: Undo
NeoOffice will then crash.
I could not reproduce this behavior in NeoOffice 3.0.2 or OpenOffice 3.1.1.

I can also reproduce this in my Go-oo 3.1.1.1 build so this bug is definitely caused by one or more of the code modifications made by Novell's Go-oo engineers. So I will go through Go-oo's Calc modifications and see which one is causing this.
Once I find the cause of this bug and I have a fix for it, I will post a test patch for you to try.

I installed the test patch worked, I installed it and was not able to reproduce the crash.

FYI. The fix for this bug is included in NeoOffice 3.1.1 Patch 1. You can download the patch from the NeoOffice patch download page.
