Ok, an easy one to reproduce:
  1. Open NeoOffice
  2. File-new-impress
  3. Make empty presentation
  4. File-new-calc
  5. Select A1-B2
  6. Copy
  7. Switch to presentation
  8. Paste
  9. Crash

OK. I've tried this and it doesn't crash for me. I tried it with cells A1-B2 empty and with values in them. In neither case does it crash.

What version and patch number of NeoOffice are you using. I'm on 3.1.1 Patch 1 and my system is as follows: iBook 1.33 GHz 1.5GB PowerPC G4, OS X 10.4.11. What's yours? Unless we can spot something obvious you will probably need to follow the instructions on this NeoWiki page on how to paste a crash log.

I'm using NeoOffice 3.1.1 patch 1 on an Intel MacBook (Core 2 Duo) with OS X 10.6.4.

OK. I think you are going to need to post a crash log. The recipe in your opening post suggests complete repeatability rather than something specific to any one document - so I think the crash log is the first step on the way forward.

Before you post a crash log, can you try installing the following test patch and tell us if the crashing still occurs? Both James3359 and I have the test patch installed and since neither of us can reproduce the crash that you see, it is possible that my fix for a different bug has fixed your bug.

If the crashing still occurs after installing the test patch, then please attach a crash log using the steps in this NeoWiki article:

Intel:

PowerPC:

Here's the crash log.

Sometimes NeoOffice just hangs (spinning disk, either blue or rainbow) the first time the sequence is executed and needs to be killed. But invariably it crashes instantaneously the second time I try it (without restarting the macbook).

I remembered from one of your previous posts that your machine is set to use Belgian for you keyboard so I switched my machine to the same and now I can reproduce this bug.

I will have to investigate what in the Belgian keyboard layout causes this. In the meantime. When I find the cause of this bug and I am able to implement a fix for the bug, I will post a test patch for you to try. I will post again when I have more news to report.

More news: strangely, this bug only occurs on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and does not occur on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Ok. I must say that Impress crashes very often here, but this is the first time I could reliably reproduce it. Thanks for investigating.

FYI. I found a workaround that you can use to stop the crashing until I am able to fix the bug: turn off native highlighting. To turn off native highlighting, check the NeoOffice :: Mac OS X Options :: Disable Mac OS X Text Highlighting menu.

I will continue investigating the bug, but the workaround should ensure that NeoOffice does not crash in the meantime.

I think that I have fixed this crashing bug and the fix is included in the following test patch.

Can you install the following test patch and tell us if the bug is fixed for you? If NeoOffice still crashes, can you post a new crash log in case my fix has changed the location of the crash?:

Intel:

PowerPC:

FYI. I have included the fix in NeoOffice 3.1.1 Patch 2. The patch can be downloaded from the NeoOffice patch download page.
