can these changes wait to be included in the NeoOffice 3.1.1 release that goes out in early May 2010?

Certainly it can wait. It's a few errant shadows in some of the icons, very small details really.

Before the 3.1.1 release in May, I thought I would take a look at something suggested to me by Dan Bennett: removing the drop shadow from the ship icon on the splash image. He rightly pointed out that a drop shadow on the icon doesn't make much sense in the context of the splash image.

Example of new version attached. If this is preferred to the existing one, I'll update my archive with it.

I think your new version looks good.

BTW, if you and/or Armando can post updated files by 1 May 2010, I can include them in the NeoOffice 3.1.1 release.

Thanks,

Patrick

FWIW, I don't like it as well as the current version; to me, the globe looks too sharp and sort-of "naked" Wink

I could try to work in a fig leaf. Embarassed

Keep the preview open, take a look at it a few more times, then fire up NeoOffice and look at the splash. I don't mean to tell you that you are wrong, but could it just be the shock of the new?

My NeoOffice Aqua Elements archive has been updated:

http://www.pimley.net/projects/downloads/NeoOfficeAquaElements.zip

I've put in the new splash page (sorry, Smokey!) and also replaced a few old-style icons I discovered a few days ago when inserting hyperlinks into a document (preview attached.)

Where did the concentric circles / bull's eye come from in the document icon?

It's already in another icon in the hyperlink window.

FYI. I have add the latest icons in NeoOffice's code repository so that they will be included in the NeoOffice 3.1.1 release on 11 May 2010.

Remember, I would be happy for any NeoOffice donor to jump into the thread and tell Armando and I if they find ugly old icons that they would like to see replaced. I stumbled upon the hyperlink icons because I've been using that function recently.

Since the "back to school" time of year in many countries happens in September and we have a very important stability improvement available, we are planning on taking the existing NeoOffice 3.1.1 plus all changes in the latest test patch and releasing it as NeoOffice 3.1.2 in early September.

The idea is that in September every year we usually see a sharp increase in downloads so to help users avoid known bugs that we have already fixed, it seems worth it for us to spend a little time releasing a new "bug fix" version.

Do the icon designers want to add or replace any of your custom icons?

If so, I can definitely include any changes to the icons in NeoOffice 3.1.2 as long as the icon designers can get them done by Friday, 3 September 2010.
