|
Before the aqua menu version, NeoOJ would take about 2 minutes to start up and run fine. After the introduction of the aqua menus, I've tried several times to get it to work. I'm on OS X 10.3.7, NeoOJ 1.1 with patch 5. What I see on launch is that the CPU is at 100% until I force quit NeoOJ. Nothing in the console logs. I tried deleting the ~Library/NeoOfficeJ-1.1 directory with no better results.
I'd really like to use NeoOJ to use the system fonts. OO printing just doesn't hack it for me.
Thanks, Hal |

If CPU usage is at 100%, I suspect that Neo/J is caught in some infinite loop.
I looked at the Neo/J startup code and there are two possible places that an infinite loop can occur:
1. The font loading code
2. The JVM loading code
The first is easy to test: open the Font Book application, disable all of your fonts, and then start Neo/J. If you see the Neo/J splash screen, then the font loading code is the problem.
The second is less likely and harder to test. The JVM needs lots of memory and, if there is inadequate memory, the JVM may keep running its garbage collector in an attempt to free up memory.
Can you try testing #1 and see if font loading is the cause?

Thanks. I monitor with X Resource Graph. Memory usage was low. Lots of page faults, though. I'll try disabling fonts in the morning and reply with the results.

It was the fonts. The splash screen appeared in about 15 seconds. Cool! Now to figure out what to do with the fonts. Don't know much about them.
Thanks, Hal |

OK, I guess I don't need 560 fonts. I re-enabled a dozen of my closest fonts and will re-enable others as needed.
Thanks for the help. NeoOJ really looks good now. |
