While dragging some text within a Writer document, I noticed that when I released the mouse, sometimes the mouse cursor would still show the drag cursor and the selected text would not move until I pressed and released the mouse a second time.

I found that our code was consuming some of the mouse moved and released events and, as result, Mac OS X's drag management code would not end the drag operation.

I have fixed this bug in the following test patches. Can anyone install either of the following test patches and tell us if they still see any cases where dragging does not seem to end when you release the mouse? Note: this bug only occurred when the drag originates and ends within NeoOffice:

NeoOffice 3.3:

I've installed NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 9 Test 6 and can confirm that is does fix the drag and drop bug that you describe.

While the fix in the test patches in my last post works, I noticed that the text "caret" position lags behind the mouse cursor position when dragging text within a Writer document.

I have tweaked my fix so that in the following test patches so that the text caret position is updated immediately after the mouse cursor moves.

Can anyone install either of the following test patches and tell us if the "dragging does not seem to end when you release the mouse" bug is still fixed for you? Note: this bug only occurred when the drag originates and ends within NeoOffice:

I've installed NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 9 Test 7.

The text caret now follows the mouse pointer with no lag. The original bug would appear still to be fixed too.

FYI. I have included the fix for this bug in NeoOffice 3.3 Patch 10. The patch can be downloaded from the NeoOffice patch download page.
