Hi,

I'm having a (really) slow day at work so I decided to bite the bullet and download NeoOffice/J for a test run. I'm very impressed as the "this is Alpha" warnings were a little disconcerting... there are notable issues, naturally, but they mostly feel aesthetic rather than big showstoppers. However, the biggest problems I did encounter (on a Calc document) were:

1) I can't select more than one cell at a time with the shift key.
2) I can't call up contextual menus at all which is making it impossible for me to alter the data range on a chart I have (one of the more bizarre UI decisions in OOo unless I'm missing something, is the heavy reliance on contextual menu options which don't appear to exist anywhere else! E.g. I can't for the life of me find out how to change data ranges other than using the option found in the contextual menu for a highlighted chart).

Also:

3) Changing the General view setting to anything other than "Standard" or "OS/2" results in fonts in the application menus that are miniscule.

FWIW, my hardware: iMacDV 400MHz, slot-loading DVD-ROM, 640MB RAM, MacOS X 10.2.6, MacOS Z-9.2.2, single button Apple round mouse.

Anyway, wish I had more time to thoroughly test OOo/NeoOffice etc out for you, but I'm only able to tinker occassionally.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Jonathon,

Thanks for testing NeoJ out and providing feedback. Look for a new "printtest" patch in this forum in the next week or so that contains fixes for the issues described below.

In the lastest code, I can select multiple cells by holding down the shift key while using the arrow keys. Is this the behavior that you expect? If so, I fixed this by disabling the feature that changed a mouse "click-and-hold" into a right-mouse-click.

The latest code has a fix for this. It is the same fix as item 1.

I found where the fonts were getting set so small for the OS2 and Mac styles and I have added a fix to the latest code.

The Shift behavior I find difficult is that lack of Shift+mouse click to select a range. E.g. Click on the start of a paragraph, shift-click on the end, to select the whole thing.

I did notice that you can get contextual menus by holding down the mouse button, so that's a workaround until printtest5!

thanks again for your work...

Sorry Patrick, this is precisely what I meant - you can't shift key-mouse select more than one cell at a time.

Ah ha, thanks for pointing that out... I'll give it a bash when I next get the chance although it sounds as though Patrick is altering this behaviour to fix bugs 1 and 2 that I listed.

Cheers.

Click and hold works to get the contextual menus, thanks.

Just a quick question for Patrick which isn't really appropriate here, but... why can't the interface be made more OS X like for this version of NeoOffice (or can it)? What is preventing e.g. the GUI being made stripy (or even just white) in place of the hideous greyness?

TIA
