What's stupid is you continually ignoring our polite requests to respect the rules of this forum.

For an update, the website FAQ has been updated to add iWork and to match the similar text that was used in the update list notifications in the past.

http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/faq.php

I also unlocked the topic too to allow our users to post their feedback and have it heard. At this time we have no intention of changing it beyond that wording, rather, we are trying to match the changes we have used on the update mailing list that haven't made it to other places. We had a mismatch in our warning from multiple places and are trying to correct that. If you see a mismatch or error, please let us know.

Guest users, please be considerate and don't cause this topic to be relocked.

Thank Ed,

I saw the changes the other day.
When I tried to cross-check the different Warning/FAQ's I got so confused.
Some were the same, some very different.

I (still) wonder if a one word change might be helpful?
Quote:
http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/faq.php
Mod "our users still find new bugs" to "our users may still find new bugs " ?
It's a small thing and I understand that ALL software WILL have bugs.
As a consumer many of the technical bugs of an application I may never encounter.

Different Question 1: The FAQ on http://trinity.neooffice.org/ and http://trinity.neooffice.org/modules.php?name=Forums is VERY different than the FAQ found at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/faq.php.
It seems confusing to me. Are they targeted to different audience?

Different Question 2:
I get confused trying to go from the trinity.neooffice.org FAQ to www.neooffice.org FAQ.

I think part of "my" confusion is from trying to reference THE FAQ when answering user questions (Plus there is NeoWiki which has many Frequently Ask Questions Rolling Eyes )
I don't think most users know (or care) that these are two different web sites: NeoOffice and Trinity/forums.
I know that I forget most of the time. I just want to get information on NeoOffice.

It seems that the www.neooffice.org FAQ is the main one,
but there is not a link available from the Trinity FORUMS.

Is it just me, or does having to two different items called FAQ seem ... confusing? Embarassed
Really, I'm NOT trying to cause problems. I just want new users to be able to get the best possible information available about NeoOffice. Thanks for taking time to listen to my ... concern.

Aha, very good point. The FAQ module here is incredibly out of date; yes, the one on the main website is the primary one. I'll disable the trinity module until I can sync them.

The "Forum FAQ" at the top of the forums is intended to be more of a "how to" to use phpbb. It came by default with the system and hasn't been modified by us.

Great,

I was not even thinking about the"Forum FAQ" at the top of the forums.
(did it say "Forum FAQ" before? Good catch yurself! Smile

I usually read/review the items on the left of the Trinity Forum.
Completely missed the "Forum FAQ" at the top of the forums. Embarassed

Thanks for all your efforts. Sorry to be such a ... pain-in-the-details.
I guess when you do End User Computer Support all day, a person gets stuck on little details.

Every Day NeoOffice gets better and Better.
A THOUSAND Thanks to all who contribute! Cool

This is all good stuff. For better or for worse, we're now dealing with websites and some content that are over four years old, so things obviously slip through the cracks Smile

Thanks for finding the FAQ stuff!

i also like picking my nose in public and light beer.

what i think the most tho, is that people would actually care about my posts more if they had fifty links in them. hmm.

If this is really a spammer whose spam was edited out by Jake, what really needs to be done is 1) the IP collected 2) the post deleted and 3) the IP and username (since this is a registered user) reported in the forum spam thread, so that Ed/Patrick can ban the IP and ban/disable/whatever the username.

Smokey

Edit: I see there is a post there.

I certainly understand the need for the disclaimer. I see it as an upfront indicator of what NeoOffice is and isn't and of the type of people Patrick, Ed, and the rest of the NeoOffice team are. I, for one, respect that.

Having said all that, my personal experience with NeoOffice has shown it to be no less stable or reliable than the alternatives.

Good work guys!

This morning I got a reply signed by Mr Steve Maharey, NZ Minister of Education, himself. Although it has his signature, I suspect that he didn't actually write it -- although he hopefully read my email and the reply.

Things are sounding positive for open source in education in NZ.

EXCELLENT!

It seem to directly respond to your comments and not just be a form letter.

Your suggestions were well thought out. I especially liked the ones about Government supporting college projects in Open Source! Everybody wins!

Thank you for sharing this reply with us.
Plus, THANK YOU for taking the time to let you Government Official know your concerns
AND contributing your inputs to NeoOffice and the FAQ wording.
